You Asked: Why Do You Drink Apple Cider Vinegar?

Happy Thursday! 1 more hour of work for me :) Gotta love early dismissals. Of course I woke up sick today, just in time for the holiday. Hopefully it goes away soon! I happen to have a doctor appointment anyway after work so it works out in a way. I still feel okay to lay out on a beach so that’s all that matters.

Yesterday’s Breakfast

I got a new protein shake called Nature’s Plus Spiru-Tein.

I tried it at my sister’s apartment last week and loved it! It tastes like a chocolate peanut butter milkshake! I also realized that I was eating all carbs at breakfast (oatmeal), mostly all carbs at lunch (2 slices of bread and chips), carbs for a snack (apple), and some kind of carb at dinner! I think it is time to add in some more protein!

I had a Boomi Bar with it since I did not think a drink would hold me over for 4 hours.

The Macadamia Boomi Bar was delicious! It is gluten free and made with Macadamia, Pineapple, Honey, Raisins, Sesame Seeds, Crispy Rice, Amaranth, and Salt. It was soft in texture and had a great honey flavor.

This breakfast was very filling. Nice change to the oats and yogurt.

Lunch was the usual turkey, ham, and cheese sandwich on French Meadow bread.

With some multigrain crackers on the side.

Later in the afternoon, I snacked on an apple. I also had Apple Cider Vinegar with honey and water.

I don’t usually measure it but it is recommended to have 2 tablespoons of ACV with a tablespoon of honey mixed with water. Many people think the apple cider vinegar alone is too acidic so honey hides the taste. It also adds health benefits.

Many of you asked me yesterday why I drink this? It all started last year when I heard that Fergie and other celebrities take 2 shots of apple cider vinegar before a meal. I did some research and found that it is a “wonder drug”!

I found a nice summary of the benefits here:

Apple cider vinegar is made from fresh ripe apples that are fermented and undergo a stringent process to create the final product. The vinegar contains a host of vitamins, beta-carotene, pectin and vital minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, chlorine, sulphur, iron, and fluorine.

Pectin in the vinegar is a fiber which helps reduce bad cholesterol and helps in regulating blood pressure. The need for calcium supplements once you start growing older is very well known. This vinegar helps extract calcium from the fruits, vegetables and meat it is mixed with, helping in the process of maintaining strong bones. Potassium deficiency causes a variety of ailments including hair loss, weak finger nails, brittle teeth, sinusitis, and a permanently running nose. Apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium. Studies have shown that potassium deficiency results in stunted growth. All these ailments can be avoided with the intake of apple cider vinegar. The potassium in this vinegar also helps in eliminating toxic waste from the body. The beta-carotene helps in countering damage caused by free radicals, helping one maintain firmer skin and a youthful appearance. Apple cider vinegar is good for those wanting to lose weight. It helps in breaking down fat which helps in natural weight reduction.

Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which is very helpful in fighting fungal and bacterial infections. This acid dissolves uric acid deposits that form around joints, helping relieve joint pains. This dissolved uric acid is gradually eliminated from the body.

It is claimed that apple cider vinegar is helpful in ailments such as constipation, headaches, arthritis, weak bones, indigestion, high cholesterol, diarrhea, eczema, sore eyes, chronic fatigue, mild food poisoning, hair loss, high blood pressure, obesity, along with a host of many other ailments. No wonder then many know apple cider vinegar as the “Wonder Drug”.

I knew I had to give this a try after reading so many great benefits. I first heard that if you take 2 shots before a meal, it curbs hunger and makes you eat less. I took 2 shots one time last year. NEVER TRY THIS AT HOME!!

I really almost threw up! No wonder they say it helps curb hunger! The next day I tried it with the honey and loved it! I highly recommend giving it a try.

It has many other great uses too! (Source: NaturesNaturalHealing.com)

Personal Care

1. Hair Rinse – Use apple cider vinegar daily as a hair rinse. It is a natural product that helps your hair to shine.

2. Corns and Calluses – To remove corns and calluses, soak a piece of cloth or a bandage in the apple cider vinegar and wrap it around the corns or calluses. Wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it overnight.

3. Fade age spots – Mix together 100ml of onion juice with 100ml of apple cider vinegar. Use this mixture on age spots each day. It will take a few weeks to see it’s benefits.

4. Hands Softener – Spray apple cider vinegar onto your hands each day to keep them soft.

5. Head lice treatment – Nits (head lice eggs) use a glue substance to stick to the strands of hair. Use warm apple cider vinegar on the hair. The vinegar is known to dissolve the glue the nits use to attach to the hair strands. Also use a nit comb and dip it in the vinegar each time you run it through the hair.

6. Skin Cleanser – Use vinegar as a skin cleaner instead of soap. Soap has alkaline as compared to skin pH. Add 50% vinegar to 50% water and shake well.

7. Bath Soak – Add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to a warm bath and soak in it. It will add potassium to sore aching muscles.

8. Mosquito Repellent – Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a spray bottle of water. Spray on as you would a mosquito repellent and it will keep them pesky pests away.

Medicinal Uses

1. Sore Throat – For a sore throat add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water. Gargle this solution every hour or when needed, Swallow the mixture twice after you have gargled it.

2. Mucus in the throat – Stir 5 tablespoons of honey with 5 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and stir till it is mixed well. Take 1 tablespoon of the mixture when you need to. This amount should last a day or two. Can be kept in the fridge.

3. Weight loss – To help you to lose weight, drink a glass of water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey before every meal.

4. Varicose veins – Take a cotton ball and soak it with apple cider vinegar. Pat the soaked cotton ball onto your varicose veins. The vinegar will reduce the pain and swelling of the veins.

5. Antiseptic Spray – Use vinegar as an antiseptic for abrasions, mosquito bites, insect bites or any other skin problems. Simply spray vinegar onto the affected area. It’s even good for sunburns.

6. Hiccups – Gargle on apple cider vinegar to stop hiccups.

7. Athletes Foot – Add some vinegar to your bath water and soak in it for half an hour each night before going to bed.

I actually tried it in my hair once and saw amazing results. I let it soak for 10 minutes and my hair came out super soft and shiny! I also used it when I burned my hand on my hair iron and it took the pain away! Gotta love this stuff. I get Bragg’s from health food stores usually. They also sell it on eBay and Amazon for pretty cheap.

Have you ever tried Apple Cider Vinegar? If so, what did you think??

Dinner

I got a delicious Mixed Berry Vitamin Water to drink. They are so refreshing!

I had leftovers from Tuesday night-Lightlife Smart Ground Crumbles with mushrooms, zucchini, peppers, salad, and salsa!

Just as delicious as the night before!

Dessert was a Chobani with a warmed Vitabrownie, blueberries, and pumpkin butter!

MMMMM!!!!! That is all I have to say!

After work I have my doctor appointment and then I will decide if I want to work out for a little. Tonight the boy and I are talking about going to the Empire City Casino in Yonkers! We have wanted to go for weeks now just to play some slots! If not, I’m sure it will be a movie night since the rain is never ending!!

Interesting info about apple cider vinegar. I wonder how much of it is folklore and how much is actually true, but sometimes you never know with natural remedies. I really like trying out alternative medicine, though. If nothing else, it'll probably give me shiny hair! :-)
