Weekend Fun and 30 Minute Run!

Good Morning! I feel like it’s been so long since I’ve blogged! I was away in Philly for the weekend so I have not even had a chance to unpack at the new apartment! I will start off from last Thursday night just because I ate something VERY yummy!

In the middle of moving to the new place, the roommate and I decided to make a pit stop at Baskin Robbins! I got a cup of heaven!

Vanilla yogurt with Oreos! My favorite thing in the world!

As I was leaving my old apartment for good, the maintenance guy stopped me and told me he had packages for me! He handed me 4 different boxes!

The first was Perfect Foods Bars!

The bars are gluten free, soy free, and have 18 grams of whole food protein! I can’t wait to try them!

The next package was from Kashi!!

Fiery Fiesta Rice Pilaf and TLC Baked Apple Spice Bars! Yum!

The next box was from Amazing Grass.

They sent me a cute water bottle, whole food energy bars, wheat grass, and more!

The final package was from Artisana Raw Organic Nut Butters!

So many exciting flavors to try like Cashew Butter, Almond Butter, Pecan Butter, Cocoa Bliss, Macadamia Butter and Coconut Oil Butter! Looks like you will be seeing more __ Butter & Jelly this week!

Breakfast on Friday was Kashi Oatmeal with Barney Butter and granola!

The granola was Kaia Foods Cocoa Bliss! Yum!

I skipped the gym on Friday since I was so sleepy from moving and it was all rainy outside. Instead I went to the Westside Market to grab some lunch. They had Magic Pop samples again so I dipped mine in artichoke spinach hummus!

I saw Synergy on the shelf and caved. I need to stop spending 4.99 on a drink!! Not good!! They are 3.99 at Integral Yoga which is down the street but it was pouring too hard!

So good..and addicting!! I also got a bag of Zesty Cheese & Olive Oil & Lemon Sotos!

Along with an Eggless Vegetarian Power Sandwich.

It was very good! It had tofu, cabbage, pickles, and dairy-free mayo.

I got off work at 4 (gotta love summer Fridays) and went home to have my friend from college and the boy waiting for me at my new apartment. We decided to head to Astoria for dinner since it is not quite as far to get to as the city is. We went to the Grand Cafe since I went to brunch there about a year ago and it was amazing!

We shared the Dip Platter to start. It had roasted garlic hummus, spinach artichoke dip, and tzatziki.

All of the dips were delicious! I decided on a salad for my main course since I knew the appetizer would probably fill me up. I got the Portobello salad with mesclun, goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and mushrooms.

It was amazing! Look at all that goat cheese!!!

My friend got the Chicken Avocado Panini. I had a bite and it was also amazing!

The boy got the chicken fajita wrap. I had some of his fries of course.

I also had a few Blue Moons!

After dinner, we headed back to Forest Hills and went to a bar on Austin Street. It was really fun there! They had a DJ and everything.

Kaity, the boy and I after a few shots :)

We made random friends too!

We left after tons of beers and shots and went back home. We started to watch Bride Wars but I passed out! Oh well, I heard it wasn’t good anyway!

Saturday morning I had to wake up early because I was going home to Philly. I had to renew my licence and it was also my sister’s bridal shower on Sunday.

I grabbed some breakfast at Penn Station before taking the train home. I decided to try some organic peach black tea.

I didn’t like it very much but I was pretty dehydrated from the night before so I drank it anyway!

I also got an egg white and feta sandwich on whole wheat bread!

It was really good! Pricey of course for something I could have made myself but perfect for being in a rush!

I got to my house in Philly around 1 and was pretty hungry again. I decided to make some PB & J!

Good thing my mom eats healthy because everything in the house is from Whole Foods! My dad came in the kitchen right when I snapped a pic of the peanut butter so I got all freaked out. No pic of the sandwich!

I did get a pic of dessert though! My mom made brownies which I am sure were healthy knowing her. I also had some strawberries, cantelope, and blueberries with it.

I had much more brownie than that because I kept eating it right out of the tray. Oops!

I got a new license, did some shopping, and went to dinner with my mom. We went to a Japanese restaurant called Ooka. I got a sushi dinner that came with miso soup, salad, asparagus roll, avocado roll, and sweet potato tempura roll! The sweet potato roll was the best thing ever!!

Sunday was my sister’s bridal shower. We had it at the Hilton in Princeton, New Jersey. I have been planning it for weeks now. It was hectic because we had to change the date and location since my sister went to France for a few weeks. It turned out very nice and she was surprised.

That is me, my sister, her fiance, and her fiance’s sister.

There was so much food to choose from! They had an omelet station, meat carving station, shrimp, pasta, mahi mahi, everything!

I started with a plate of salad, grilled vegetables, and shrimp.

I also got an egg white omelet with mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach. I had a roll, lox, and fruit too.

They also had amazing dessert but I could not get a picture without people seeing. I was good and stuck to the fruit!

I took the train back to New York and had a package waiting for me! It was from Sonny & Joe’s hummus!

So many great flavors to try!

I brought out the Jalapeno Hummus right away because I picked up some Subway on my way home!

I also brought out some Cape Cod Sweet Mesquite Barbecue chips to try!

I enjoyed the chips and hummus with a 6 inch sub. It had turkey, ham, cheese, lettuce, sweet peppers, pickles, cucumbers, and mustard.

I loved both the chips and hummus! The chips were crunchy with a sweet barbecue flavor. The hummus was creamy and had little jalapeno bits in it. Delicious!

I spent the rest of the night working on the kitchen. I did not realize how much food I still have to try! My roommate has no cabinet space for herself because of me! We will be heading to Target tonight to get some extra drawers!

I have to spend tonight trying to unpack my room! There are boxes everywhere. I don’t even know where to start! I have to have it done by Thursday because my parents are coming to NY for my birthday so I want it to look nice!

Since I will be busy almost every night this week, I made a promise to myself that I would go to the gym in the mornings. I used to be able to do it all the time, but for a while I just could not get myself out of bed. Now that is warmer out, I think it will be easier. I have a few pounds that I would like to lose so I really need to do this. This time last year I was about 5 to 10 pounds less than I am now so I am determined.

I am 1 for 1 right now. I got up at 6 am and planned to take a spin class by my work at 7:15. I got to the gym at 7 and started walking on the treadmill. Once 7:15 hit, there was no spin class going on. I realized it was 7:15 at night! Stupid mistake!

I decided to stay on the treadmill. I walked for 5 minutes and started to jog. Guess what, I jogged for 30 minutes straight with no cramp! The only reason I stopped was because my legs started to ache. I think not eating anything before running was the reason I never got a cramp. I walked for another 10 minutes after my jog and left.

I will probably work out at lunch too because it is the only way I will see results. It is just nice to know I can relax and work on my apartment after work without stressing out about the gym.

I am trying to figure out what I did last year around this time to lose the extra pounds. I don’t think I ate that much different. maybe just a little more now at night since the boy is always snacking and it is hard to resist! I also drank apple cider vinegar with honey and water every day. I am not sure if that played a part in my weight but maybe it is worth a try again?

I am also wondering if my gum chewing habit has anything to do with this. I don’t chew it at all anymore during work. I just chew a few pieces when I get home since I crave it all day. Maybe I snack more because my mouth needs to be occupied? Chewing 2 packs of gum in a day also gets things going in the stomach if you know what I mean. By no means do I want to start chewing that much again because my stomach feels 1000 times better now but it does make me wonder!

I think for now I will make sure I go to the gym as much as possible, try not to snack at night after dinner, and try to only snack when I am hungry at work. If that doesn’t work, I know that the South Beach Diet works for me but I do not want to take it to that level yet. It was not fun when I did it to lose weight a few years ago but I lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks! I think it would be too hard now with all of the blog food in my house! I will stick with the gym and less snacking and see what happens.

I am off to go catch up on all the blogs that I’ve missed out on!! Have a good one!

Go you for running!!! You're doing great!!! As for your weight 1. you look amazing, i don't think you need to lose but that is a person thing which I completely respect. The gum REALLY helped me. And by gum I mean NOT CHEWING IT. I actually believe it was causing me to gain weight and bloat. Once I stopped the 'weight' came off like 2-3lbs in a week. Whenever i go back to it i go back up (even when i eat EXACTLY the same, so I know it's not actual weight…) what about tea? Whenever I want to chew gum now I have chamomile tea or water. I know its not the same, but i think it's a reverse habit. You train yourself out of it. My stomach has ceased having problems too when I don't have bars with sugar alcohol and when i don't have gum. HMMMMM. I'm so dumb!!! :) Hope your new apt is great!!! Post pics!!!

Eatfabinnyc: Thanks girl! Yeah I know other people can't tell about the weight but I don't like the way my clothes fit and honestly I took off a bunch of pics from this post because I did not like the way I looked. You are right, gum does make me completely bloated. I just know I snack more when I don't have it to chew. I am sipping on green tea right now so I am doing okay! I will post pics of the apt as soon as I unpack some more!

Congrats on the running for 30 minutes!! I can't eat before I run and I never, ever get cramps….maybe that is it?

Hmmm, as an avid gum chewer (understatement) it personally helps me…but it doesn't give me tummy issues. My problem is that I NEED something sweet after every single meal! I'm usually full, my mouth just wants the sweetness. So the gum helps with that (for me).

I say do what you're doing – and maybe if you don't see results in a few weeks you can think about changing something up? But I do think you look amazing as is, girl!

Great job on the running! That's awesome that you finally didn't get a cramp.

Wow, you've got a lot of goodies to try! I'm jealous :D

Ugghh I know what you mean about the gum habit! It's so addicting, but it messes with my tummy so much. And I can't just have a piece of gum–I keep reaching for another, and another, and pretty soon the whole pack is gone. I didn't have any yesterday, and I hope I can hold out and not have any today!

    Have a great day :)

ewww apple cider vinegar and honey!! gym chewing definitely helps curb my appetite, definitely at work. i feel like i always need to be chewing on something.

Holly: You are so lucky it doesn't bother your tummy! I am the same way..I need something sweet after every meal. I just ate a 200 calorie POM chocolate bar but I probably could have avoided it if I had gum! Blah oh well!

Anne: I am the same way! Once I put in one piece, I can' stop! It turns into 3 packs!!

Meloncauliflower: It's not that bad! I only put in 2 tablespoons of the vinegar and the rest water and honey so I taste the honey more! But… an apple cider vinegar shot on the other hand was the worst mistake of my life!

The whole gum thing is such a debate in my mind – I love having a piece after each meal to do a quasi "toothbrush" and also to get any bad flavor out of my mouth. But now I'm freaked out about artificial sweeteners and all the other chemicals in there so I really want to give it up. I just don't know how to get minty fresh w/o artificial sweetener or actual sugar! Blah.

I'm sure you'll lose the extra lbs if you decide to – just keep trying new and free workout classes around the city "for fun." :) I never count those as actual workouts – just extra curriculars, haha!

Hey great work with running! Not eating def helps with the cramps. I can't believe you resisted dessert! Also, my PT wants me to take spin one day to test it out, can we go together soon?
