Happy St. Patty’s Day! I’m not Irish but do enjoy holidays that involve green beer :) Who else agrees that we should have off so we can drink all day? Okay…going to change the subject now because I am getting thirsty over here! Time for a little food recap of yesterday! I pretty much lived on veggie burgers and fries! No complaints here.

No burger for breakfast but I did have a delicious Fage yogurt filled with banana slices and Cinnamon Puffins.

I had a lot more Puffins throughout the morning! They are addicting!

I met up with a friend for lunch and we decided to try Bill’s Bar and Burger in the Meatpacking District.  It is always packed when I walk by so I figured it had to be good! It was very cute inside with a bar, high tables, and fun music. I was very happy to see that they had a veggie burger on a whole wheat bun!

It came with a delicious roasted red pepper sauce and pickles. The burger was okay but nothing special. I seemed to be a fried veggie burger which kind of defeats the purpose. The normal burgers also just looked like something you would see from a fast food restaurant. We were expecting something huge and juicy. Oh well. The fries were okay but kind of boring!

002

I think it is always packed there because the beers during happy hour are only $3.00.  I would go back there to drink but not just for lunch.

I met up with another friend for dinner! Anyone remember Amanda from this guest post a while back? Since that last post, she gained about 5 pounds and looks great now. We were roommates in college but hardly get to see each other so I was very excited about dinner!  We decided to go to Vynl. I started off with White Cranberrytini. It had Kettle One, white cranberry juice, lemon, and one more thing but I can’t remember.

004

It was nice and strong :)

I thought about getting a salad for my entree but none of them seemed too exciting. Then I saw that they had a new veggie burger on the menu and had to get it! I did not care that I had one at lunch when I saw how good this one looked:

VYNL Roasted Veggie Burger *sweet onion, carrot, mushroom, red bell pepper, asparagus, sweet potato, tofu, black bean, spinach, lentils & chickpeas blended together and topped off with goat cheese on toasted multigrain bread. **

005

Now that is a veggie burger!! It was 100 times better than the one I had at lunch! I loved all the goat cheese they spread on there! And those fries….also better than at lunch. I love when they are crunchy and well done! I ate about half of them and let Amanda help me with the rest! Delicious! Vynl definitely beats Bill’s Burger!!

1) What is your favorite place to get a veggie burger..or your favorite brand?

2) What are you doing for St. Patty’s Day?

Drink some green beer for me :)

there is nothing worse than a pathetic veggie burger…and usually its the only veg item on a menu, so ive had my fair share. the second one looks great though!

  2. Can you believe I’ve never had a veggie burger? I usually avoid them because of the soy, but I am really aching to try one recently! I may make my own…

  3. Wow those veggie burgers look great! The second definitely better than the first. I am hungry now :)
Not doing anything for St. Patty’s – I am not Irish, so it means basically nothing to me, and I’m too old to drink all day on a Wednesday and actually function the next day!

  4. I love the gardenburger original….but that second one you had looks delicious!!

I have to say I’m a huge fan of veggie burgers. The ones in the grocery store leave me somewhat disappointed, but we have a local restaurant that makes their own and they are out of this world, topped with lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and some dijon/honey mustard that they make their own blend of. Yum, yum, yummy! And Cheesburger-Cheesburger here has a veggie burger on the menu for Lent that is right up there on my list. I wish they would keep it all the time.

I actually worked for Chee and the veggie burger is fried! Please ask them to put it on the grill! It takes longer, but way healthier!!!

  6. I’ve never had a good veggie burger at a restaurant. They’re always fried or made with preservatives making them even worse for you than just regular beef burger. I’d eat that one with the goat cheese though!

ugh I hate when they do that to veggie burgers! I’m always hesitant to order them when I’m out for that reason. My FAVorite brand is Morningstar – the tomato basil flavor! Tastes like pizza.

I’m going to grab some drinks with some friends for one of their birthdays – nothing too crazy (I wish!). Last year I called in sick the day after SPD – oops. Too much fun!

  10. You know, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a veggie burger at a restaurant! I feel like it’s such a hit-or-miss kind of thing, you know? I’d probably try it if it were like a vegetarian restaurant, though.

My plans for St. Patty’s day is to go out to dinner with my friends for my birthday :D My actual birthday is tomorrow, but I need tomorrow night to pack for my trip to FitBloggin/Florida (I’m going to FL directly after FB, ah!)

Thanks Missy for an awesome time! I really enjoyed my dinner too! That was the first healthy thing Ive had in a while… Between the nice weather and you being present, I felt obliged to order healthy! For anyone wondering, I had a spinach salad with sliced almonds, grilled chicken, cherry tomatos, and bacon vinagrette (on the side!) During our dinner, we were trying to find a way to satisfy the urge to “snack” at night without feeling guilty. We discovered that its not about what your eating at night, its the fact that you wanna just chill out and snack! Snacking would usually consist of something of quantities, like cereal, chips, popcorn, etc. Snacking is not something that you can consume in one sitting, like a piece of fruit, or a cupcake, etc… Our minds just want that continuous consumption… Missy had some good ideas to satisfy that nightly urge… popcorn kernalls, popped in a popcorn popper appliance are low cal… if you want to satisfy the sweet tooth, spray the popcorn with the fake 0 cal 0 fat butter, and add a blend of cinnamon and splenda (or any 0 cal sugar supplement.) If you want something with a bit more savory flavor, add some spices/seasoning… Be creative!!! I thought it was a great idea and im gonna try it!!! Thanks MISSY!!!
    XOXO Amanda C.

  19. I think I am lucky living in California… I have lots of favorite restaurant veggie burgers but they are all local joints.

I chaperoned kids today… so no partying. But the insanity outside our hotel for the parade was fun to watch!
