Testing the Cottage Cheese

Morning! It is time for a little food recap since I haven’t done one yet this week! I have a few reviews to do as well. Let’s start with my breakfasts for the week!

Breakfast!

A few days ago I received a cool water bottle and bag of Pomegranate Power from Navitas Naturals.

Picture 089

About the Pomegranate Power:

A pomegranate powder made from the dried and milled juicy seeds of sustainably grown fruit. This product contains just one ingredient: pomegranates. Raw, kosher, gluten-free, vegan, and 100% organic.

I decided to add it to my oats on Monday!

Picture 090

I also added some Oikos and FitNutz Peanut Butter. This was a great combination. The pomegranate added a nice tangy, fruity flavor to the oats. I am using my water bottle at the moment too!

Yesterday I had some extra time to get to work after Core Fusion Yoga so I decided to stop at this new deli and get an egg sandwich.

Picture 093

I got egg whites, spinach, and feta on whole wheat bread. Really good! They were pretty generous with their eggs! I will be stopping there more often.

Today I decided to try adding cottage cheese to my oats (hi Julie!) Julie and I tweeted about how I must try it with lots and lots of cinnamon and Stevia for my first time!

Picture 095

I tried cottage cheese once last year and wasn’t crazy about it but now I am giving it another shot. It always looks so delicious on the blogs! I actually really enjoyed it in my oats today! It made them nice and fluffy. I will be trying it more ways this week!

Lunch!

Dori told me that she’s been bringing hummus and frozen veggie wraps lately so I decided to try one out for myself! I actually haven’t bought frozen veggies since I got my steamer but they really are much easier to make. They don’t taste as good but are handy for when I don’t have 10 minutes to sit there and steam a bunch of veggies.

Picture 084

I added Sabra hummus, sprouts, and an asparagus, squash, mushroom, cauliflower mix to an Ezekiel wrap.

Picture 085

I also had some Mary’s Gone Twigs on the side. I loved the wrap! I actually brought the same lunch every single day this week :) Nice change to my turkey sandwiches.

Dinner!

Dinner on Monday did not occur till 10:00 at night since I was at Core Fusion Cardio all late! I wanted something fast and found this in my cabinet!

Picture 091

All I had to do was stick the packet in the microwave for 2 minutes. I also made some edamame and salad.

Picture 092

I had about half the packet of rice and a lot of edamame (more than above). The rice was just okay. It was kind of mushy. There was a second option of cooking it with water which I think I would do next time to make it more moist. The edamame was great of course! I just boiled it and added a little salt.

Last night I got home from work and my heat was broken. It was 66 degrees in my apartment so I knew what I was having for dinner!

The nutritional stats are a lot better than some other soups I’ve tried in the past.

I had the whole can so it was 200 calories and 580 mg of sodium. Most soups are over 1000 mg of sodium for the whole can so I was happy with this. I added some frozen vegetables to make it more interesting.

Picture 094

It was delicious! It was very smooth and creamy and did not taste salty at all. I munched on some Dr. Kracker Apple Crisps as well. Definitely my favorite flavor.

That’s it for food! I have a fun giveaway starting tomorrow so stay tuned! Be sure to check out Mari’s popchips giveaway! I will leave you with a few questions:

1) What is your favorite way to prepare veggies (steamed, roasted, frozen in the microwave??)

2) What is your favorite way to eat cottage cheese?

  • I love roasting veggies!
As for cottage cheese, I actually used to love eating it solo for breakfast with some berries, toasted almond slivers and a drizzle of honey – might have to bring that back once it starts getting warmer in New York…whenever that is. :-p

  • Oooh everything about this post has such a fun twist to it. Like the cottage cheese in oats! i’ve definitely been a skeptic on cheese in oats, so it’s nice to know you enjoy it!! I also LOOOOOVE steamed veggies in wraps. I find it makes it sweeter and funner to eat.
Last but not least, OOOOH I gotta try that soup!!!!

I love eating veggies either steaming and tossing in a sesame sauce, or roasting them till their charred on the edges. YUM. (and I haaaate cheese of all sorts…so i’ve never tried cottage cheese. ever!)

  • I don’t have a steamer but my roommate does.. Whenever I can I use her steamer as they taste soo much better!!

  • I like roasted veggies the best and I love cottage cheese in my oatmeal. I like to add very little water so it’s thick as cement. Sounds gross, but I love it.

  • 1. roasted!
    2. with chopped pineapple.

I actually really like those rice packets, but yes I usually add some liquid to them or else they’re kind of dry. The curry one is really good.

    1. Roasted in the oven by a landslide!!! Or BBQ.

    2. Yumm cottage cheese with cinnamon baked apples and sweetener is delicious! Lots of people like it blended/whipped if they don’t like the texture.

  • Glad you’re giving cottage cheese another try! I used to hate it with a passion when I was a kid. But I gave it another shot a few years ago (by sweetening it and adding cereal + fruit) and now I love it!

  • cottage cheese…I dont know what I would do without it I love it so much! its great it oats too, but I love my oats STEAMING hot and the CC just makes them cold, so If I have it ill have it on the side, not mixed directly in!

that new deli sandwich looks awesome! I love when ew deli’s or restaurants open up, theyre the best to try out!!

fav way to eat veggies either grilled or roasted

fav way to eat CC what would be with sugar free jam and frozen berries mixed in!

  • I’ve never had cottage cheese in oats (nor even thought about it) but want to try it now! Cottage cheese is one of my faves and reminds me of being a kid since we used to eat it alot at dinner. I only eat it plain, I’ve never had it with fruit or anything because I like it as is.

Veggies—I like them steamed, grilled or raw. I only nuke them when I don’t have any time and prefer fresh or frozen (rarely buy frozen veggies)

  • Wow that Pomegranate Power sounds awsome! Do you know how much it sells for in the stores? I can think of so many things to add it to because I LOVE Pomegranate anything!

It is @21.99 on the Navitas Naturals website. Not sure how much it is in stores though.

  • Amazing eats. I would love that water bottle so if you dont want it… HI! I do! LOL
I have to try the cottage cheese and the greek yogurt in my oats. Your oats hve been looking very creamy! might have to talk a walk on the dark side.

If i have some time on my hands i like to roast my veggies but the easiest way for me is to steam. And I steam frozen veggies all the time. They dont come out so bad… way better than boiling them!

  • I have to say that I love your blog. I think I am going
to do the same with my weight-loss/happiness journey blog. I think it will prove to hold me accountable.
Anyway I love roasted veggies the best. My hubby also puts some on the BBQ with a little olive oil and s&p and they are so green and crunchy. At work I will sometimes steam them and put some balsamic vinegar on them…so yummy. I love cottage cheese but am some times turned off by the texture and white foods have not always been my thing. Once I buy CC and eat it, my favorite way is with some fruit and cinnamon. Cinnamon is so darn good too, almost on everything ;-) Can’t wait to read more. What a great find today!!

Thanks so much for reading! Glad you like it :)

  • Roasted veggies are my fave, but I also love them grilled or just tossed in a pan with some olive oil. I’ve never actually had cottage cheese — the texture freaks me out a little — but one of these days I’ll give it a shot :)

Want to try and get together to do health histories later this week/early next week?

Yes that would be great! I need some practice!

  • I love adding cottage cheese to oats because it adds a little bit of salt.
favorite way to prepare veggies? steam or stir-fry. :)

    [Reply]

  • The pomegranate powder sounds really fun! I’ll have to look for it.
I like my veggies roasted, and I used to love having cc with lunch, but I ate it so often that now I’m kind of grossed out by it :(
    Have a good Thursday Missy!

  • Ahhh!!! I’m so sorry but my comments haven’t been going through – I didn’t abandon your blog! I’m a steamed veggie girl! The mushier the broc, the better.

I love my CC on an English muffin! I’m going to have to try the oat combo though!

    [Reply]

  • I love to saute veggies in evoo and garlic!! The best way I have ever had cottage cheese was substituted in veggie lasagna. Yummy.

    [Reply]

  • I think I am the queen of frozen vegetables! I don’t mind them, though. I think that frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots roast really well. So do frozen brussels sprouts. Frozen spinach is essential too because you can always just throw it into anything and it will just thaw as you cook whatever it’s in!

    [Reply]

  • That grilled panini egg sammie looks so good!

Core Fusion yoga–I’m jealous! I just ran out of my ten-class pass, need to re-stock on my yoga classes! If only they weren’t so pricey!!

    [Reply]

  • I LOVE steamed veggies, but to be honest, I’ll eat them any way they are prepared!! Yum. And I love that you pointed out the sodium in your soup. Definitely high, BUT must better than most!! Really, it’s hard to find anything lower than the Amy’s, unless you get Trader Joe’s low sodium soups, but they are sort of bland, even I admit that one.

As for cottage cheese, I have yet to try the oats mixed with CC, like Julie does. I just can’t bring myself to do it! I think it sounds good, but I like my oats hot..doesn’t that make them cold?? I like cottage cheese with veggies or on top of a salad or spaghetti squash. Yum.

Oh I want to try that FitNutz?? PB. I keep hearing about it and I want to try it!!

  • oooh roasted veggies are my absolute fav! Great products reviews by the way! The pomegrante power sounds really interesting! but for my veggies im a huge fan of roasting them or a quick dry saute. I love when they get super crunchy on the outside and warm in the inside. So tasty! For cottage cheese i used to top with apple butter! Something I did as a kid. But now I like it with pepper and veggies on top. Super good. Have a fabulous day!
