Tom and Toon!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I was supposed to go to the Phillies game on Friday but it was cancelled because of the rain. Instead, I went out to dinner with my sister and her husband. We decided to check Groupon Now to see if there were any last minute deals before deciding where to eat. We ended up finding a deal for $20 off a $40 purchase to a restaurant called Tom & Toon. The menu looked good and the restaurant was very close to us for such a gross, rainy night.

The restaurant seemed to have mostly Thai food but also had American options such as fried chicken, burgers, and pizza. Usually places like that make me nervous but the environment was really nice and the restaurant had good reviews online. I started off with a Chang beer just because it sounded cool.

Very good choice. It was pretty similar to the taste of Sapporo beer.

We decided to split an appetizer and two entrees. We started off with the Shrimp Summer Rolls.

All three of us agreed that these were the best summer rolls we’ve ever had! They were very fresh and had the most amazing sauces for dipping.

We also split the Beef Pad Thai.

This dish was also amazing! The beef was lean and delicious and I loved that the dish was covered with bean sprouts.

We shared one more delicious dish: Miso Glazed Ahi Tuna.

The tuna was seared to perfection and there was a great corn and bean mix under the fish. Loved it!

The service at Tom and Toon was really great and there was even live music!

We had several glasses of wine before dinner which made the experience that much better…

Excuse the random pear on the table that was found in my purse. We ended up having drunken push up contests. I lost!

On Saturday, I went to two Phillies games and the Mets won both times. Booo. I also got hit in the shoulder with a foul ball. It really hurt and I didn’t even get a ball out of it. I did get an ice pack. Exciting stuff.

Yesterday I went to Pop Burger and watched football all day. I saw Kelly from the Real Housewives of New York. Pretty cool.

What a Weekend

Hello! I unfortunately do not have a recap to share about the Integrative Nutrition conference like originally planned. The reason I did not attend was partially my own fault but something happened on Friday night that would have kept me from going anyway. I cancelled my registration to the conference about a month ago because I thought I was seeing my dad’s band play in Atlantic City. I asked the school to confirm my cancellation but did not hear anything back. I continued to receive all of the emails about the conference so I assumed that I was still registered. My dad’s gig ended up being cancelled so I decided that I really wanted to go to the conference. I tried to print the ticket on Friday but the email with the tickets was gone. I realized that they did cancel my registration but failed to let me know. I emailed the school several times and explained the situation and asked if I could still attend. I heard nothing back. That was that.

After what happened to me on Friday night, I don’t think I would have made it to the conference even if the school did allow me to attend. I was in my room enjoying wine all night and noticed that Daisy was playing in the corner and kept running back to one spot over and over again. I assumed there was a toy stuck under my bookshelf. Right before I was about to go to sleep, I decided to move the bookshelf and get her the toy. I pushed it to the side and a mouse was staring at me in the face!! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you would know that I have a huge phobia to mice. I immediately ran into my bed and started screaming and crying. I could not breathe. Every time I heard any noise, I thought Daisy was playing with the mouse. I had no idea if she would kill it or bring it over to me. I was begging for my roommate to help me and get me out of my room. The mouse was right by my door so she could not open my door to help me. She called her friend and he came over and carried me out of my bedroom. I cried in his car for a half hour while he tried to find the damn thing. No luck. I decided to sleep in Jackie’s room and leave Daisy with the mouse all night. Being trapped in my bedroom with a mouse and cat was honestly the scariest hour of my life. I would have never woken up and went to a nutrition conference the next morning!

I woke up and looked around for a dead mouse. Nothing. My room looked like a bomb had hit it.

I knew I needed to clean but was so scared of what I would find. I figured maybe it went away by that point. I sat on my bed and told my mom the whole story on the phone. I looked down and saw a shadow. I then saw the mouse crawl out from under my couch!!!! I screamed, hung up the phone, and sprinted outside in my pajamas crying. I should have known better that my sweet baby would never kill a mouse.

I decided to go with my roommate to a BBQ since I was not staying home with the mouse. Jackie’s friend came over and tried to find the mouse with a broom. He was planning on pushing it ouside the apartment. He could not find it so I decided to just get clothes out and leave. I walk in my room and see a freaking dead mouse. Sorry to gross anyone out but I think the guy smushed it with my couch. I am so happy it is gone but I am still so terrified to sleep in my room. That was the worst night and morning ever. I needed a drink. I needed chocolate. Jackie and I decided to make cupcakes since we were trapped outside my bedroom.

We then headed to the BBQ and I immediately downed several margaritas.

I enjoyed a hot dog.

I made sure to get my veggies (and beer) in too!

The tequila was just what I needed after such a stressful night.

After the BBQ, I headed to my sister’s apartment for some more drinking.

We spent the rest of Saturday partying and dancing on the rooftop of the Dream hotel.

The rest of my weekend turned out to be really fun. I am sad that I had to miss Deepak Chopra and all of the other great speakers at the nutrition conference but enjoyed my time with family and friends.

And thank heaven Mickey is dead!

Salsa, Sushi, and Sati Summer

Today was a perfect and relaxing summer Sunday. I started off my day with a great intenSati class taught by my girl Darbi. I was not even planning on going because I was super tired this morning and just wanted to stay in bed. I happened to wake up ten minutes before I would have had to leave and saw a text message from my fellow Sati friend asking me if I was going. I told her I was laying there debating with myself but her text was enough for me to get my butt up and go. I am so happy I did and felt like a new person afterwards. Class was really fun and I even forgot about the fact that I did not have my usual espresso before the class. I also loved that I seemed to know every single person in the room. After class, I found out that they were giving free chair massages at Equinox! Yes please!

I walk by the massage chairs before leaving the gym all of the time but always assumed that they cost money. Amazing discovery! The massage only lasted about five minutes but felt great! I must admit that it was nice having a guy give me a massage because I usually go to the woman who paints my nails! I was very glad I shaved since he definitely rubbed down my legs. Anyway….a bunch of us grabbed lunch and headed to The High Line for a relaxing afternoon.

I love that I had absolutely nothing planned for Sunday but just going to intenSati kept me occupied for the whole day. While I essentially go for the amazing workout, it is also a huge part of my social life. I would definitely only have about two friends if it weren’t for intenSati!

I am now enjoying fruity wine and an Amy’s burrito!

I had another super relaxing day on Saturday. I thought about going to the gym or to Core Fusion but I knew my body needed a day off. I only went to Core Fusion four times this week even though I had hoped for five. I could do a Core Fusion DVD right now but I know I need to listen to my body and give it the rest it needs. I will get back there tomorrow morning now that my muscles have had some time to recover. I did work out a little bit by cleaning my bedroom and learning a new intenSati series! I am teaching again in two weeks so now is the time to prepare! I had a fun time dancing around in my kitchen and yelling out positive affirmations!

Since my oven is unplugged and my apartment is super hot, I decided to pick up breakfast from a local cafe. I got an egg white mushroom and feta cheese omelet with whole wheat toast. I also got a big iced coffee and chocolate Zico coconut water. Let’s just say I was a little hungover from the night before!

Lunch was a veggie burger sandwich with frozen broccoli (heated up in the microwave).

I watched several Netfix Instant movies including Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead (I need to start juicing again), Twelve, and Happy Accident. Loved them all! I also treated myself to some sushi and wine!

I enjoyed some salad and edamame to start.

I also got an Eel Avocado roll and Dragon roll with brown rice.

Delicious! I don’t know why but I also had some cereal before bed. Same old story.

Back to Friday night….

I went to one of my favorite classes of the week- intenSati with Erin Stutland. I was miserable walking in but happy and energized walking out. A few of us went out for some drinks after class at a cute bar in Union Square called Lillie’s.

I always get drunk so fast after working out. I guess dehydration and not eating dinner till after drinking will do that to you. We went to a club afterwards called SOBS for some salsa dancing.

I do not salsa dance which meant standing at the bar and consuming several Cosmopolitans while watching my friends dance. Eventually I gave in and let the Latino boys spin me around which is not too smart after so much vodka. I did know the basic steps so it was not a total disaster. It was a super fun night, especially since it ended with Magnolia Pistachio cupcakes!

I will be spending the rest of my Sunday evening with my wine and kitty!

A Hike and Rave

Hello! I had the craziest weekend but unfortunately I do not have most of the pictures because I lost my third Droid on Sunday night. I will get to that story a little later. Let’s start off with Saturday morning since I went on a lovely hike with Outdoor Bound. I bought a Groupon a couple of months ago and got half off of the price of the hike! You may remember me going on a bunch of hikes with the same company last year:

This time around, my sister and I went on the Diamond Mountain Hike. This was a 6 mile hike in Harraman State Park. For just $30 with the Groupon, a van picked us up in the city, drove us an hour away, and took us on a beautiful hike with a surprise lake. We had a great time, especially because our tour guide was a hottie!

The best part of the hike was lunch time! We got to tan by a lake and eat our Lenny’s turkey wraps!

It was nice to be away from the city for the day. We arrived back around 5pm which meant….alcohol time! We met my sister’s husband at a restaurant called Lavo because they were having a big daytime drinking party! It was insane by the time we got there! Everyone was wasted out of their minds. I needed to catch up fast.

After a few glasses of champagne, we headed to some guy’s amazing apartment in the city.

A girl can dream right? The apartment and view was so beautiful.

We had a few drinks there but left for a little Mexican dinner break at Lime Jungle. Corona please!

The best part about Lime Jungle? The unlimited salsa bar! I had a blast with this!

After having my own little salsa and chip fiesta, I ate a delicious whole wheat burrito with chicken, black beans, and other veggies.

I tried some steak fajitas too. Awesome.

We finished our night at a rooftop bar called Highbar. I drank several Coronas, vodka shots, and glasses of champagne.

On Sunday, I woke up on my sister’s couch and decided that we were going to intenSati! Equinox has kindly opened their guests lists this week in preparation for the LOVE flash mob on Friday! If anyone wants to try a class with me, shoot me an email! My sister enjoyed her first class and already wants to go back!

We passed out in Sheep Meadow for hours afterwards (the closest thing we have to a beach here in NYC).

I decided to keep the fun going and went to a warehouse party in Brooklyn with a couple of my intenSati friends that night! Who goes to a dance party at 8pm on a Sunday night? Me! It was called the Body & Soul Reunion at Industry City. It was a big rave pretty much. I love my house music.

We danced and drank a lot. Goodbye Droid.

I now have an iPhone so I am not too upset (just very broke). Lost phones usually equal amazing weekends!

My Birthday Weekend!

Happy Saturday! I am finally back after a mini blog vacation. I had the craziest week at work and seemed to still be celebrating my birthday every night this week! I am going to recap back to last weekend and share some of the highlights of my birthday.

Friday

I took the day off of work because Patricia Moreno held a 2 hour advanced intenSati workout for leaders during the day.

This was the hardest intenSati workout of my life. It was the most amazing and challenging two hours though. It was extra special because the entire workout was filmed! I always work harder when I am exercising on camera. There was also a photographer there taking pictures for the new website! Very cool. A few of us decided to have some drinks after class as a pre-birthday celebration for me! We headed to Vynl in Chelsea since I knew they had delicious cocktails there. We had every intention of making this a typical happy hour with dinner and maybe two drinks. Hmm…not so much.

We all started with a margarita. One margarita turned into four margaritas.

I got a veggie burger and fries. I thought this would save me from getting too drunk. No.

Pretty soon the glow sticks came out. Tiffany ordered an Electric Lemonade which really was electric!

We made friends with the boys around us. One happened to be Robert Downing Jr.’s cousin!

Apparently he started buying us frozen cosmos. I learned the next day that I drank four of them…after the four margaritas.

The alcohol started to kick in. We turned Vynl into a dance club!

We had a blast (from what I can remember) and got our entire bill paid for by Robert Downing Jr’s cousin. Yes!

Birthday night number one=success.

The next morning=shit show!

Saturday

I woke up at 5:00 in the morning and got quite sick. I knew I had to wake up in a couple of hours for the intenSati class that Dori and I organized for the BeFitNYC.org launch! I eventually woke up back at 9:00am and continued to get sick. I had abosolutely no idea how I was going to participate in an hour long intenSati class! I could not stay in bed after working so hard to organize this event. Somehow I made it to Simple Studios and got enough energy back to survive the entire class.

The event was supposed to be in Central Park but it was rainy and cold out so we moved it to Simple Studios. Luckily they had coconut water waiting for me!

The event was a huge success! We had an amazing turnout and Lindsay Davis taught such an empowering and inspiring class.

The class was also filmed so that got me a little extra motivated to do my best even though I felt like crap!

We plan to organize some more events with BeFitNYC.org in the future so stay tuned!

For my main birthday party, I was originally planning on doing a rooftop party outside all day. I did this last year and the weather was perfect! This year, it was gross out and the thought of drinking again at 2:00pm made me feel even more sick! I decided to cancel my birthday and do dinner and drinks later that night.

After chugging tons of coconut water, eating an egg and cheese bagel, and resting all day, I finally felt better! I met Dori and Lisa at Cinema for some dinner.

I enjoyed two Lychee Martinis but had a pretty hard time drinking the second one! Where did Missy go?

We split a few amazing appetizers:

We got asparagus and tomatoes with mozzarella cheese. We also split grilled seasonal vegetables with herb vinaigrette.

Dori and I shared a delicious pizza: White Tarte Flambé with crème fraiche, mozzarella, fontina, ricotta, parmesan, fresh spinach, roasted garlic and truffle oil drizzle.

Lisa got the steamed vegetable dumplings.

Dori brought us cupcakes from a Sprinkles that just opened near her apartment!

So pretty!

We tried Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Banana, and Milk Chocolate. They were definitely some of the best cupcakes I’ve had in New York! Thanks Dori!

Lisa and our friend Alison continued on to one more bar to finish the night. I tried to drink a beer but I was just way to exhausted from the night before!

The weekend ended with a visit from the parents on Sunday. They took me out to dinner and got me this….

My first flat screen! Now I just need some cable! One of these days…

I had a great birthday and enjoyed all of the time I got to spend eating, drinking, and exercising with my friends! Now I am off to brunch with Marina! Stay tuned for a new restaurant review. Have a nice weekend!
