I am on some sort of soup craze this week. I’ve been determined to find healthy low sodium soups so I’ve had a different kind for dinner 3 nights in a row! You may remember that on Sunday night, I tried Amy’s Low Fat Vegetable Barley. One whole can contained a whopping 1160 mg of sodium! Very sad since the ingredients are great and it is low in calories.
Today I will review:

On Monday, I decided to try out the Amy’s Organic Minestrone. It was labeled “Light in Sodium” unlike the soup I tried the night before.

Let’s check out the nutritional stats!
Serving Size: 1 cup
Servings Per Container: 2
Serving Weight: 245 g
Calories: 90
Calories from Fat: 10
Total Fat: 2g 0%
Saturated Fat: 0g 0%
Trans Fat: 0g
Cholesterol: 0mg 0%
Sodium: 290mg 12%
Carbohydrates: 17g 6%
Fiber: 3g 12%
Sugars: 5g
Protein: 3g %
Organic: 98%
Vitamin A: 30% • Vitamin C: 15%
Calcium: 2% • Iron: 6%
290 mg for half a can is much better than the 580 mg in the Vegetable Barley. I ate the whole can again so I consumed 580 mg. This is pretty high but I don’t like to only have half a can of soup. 180 calories , 6 grams of fiber, and 6 grams of protein is great for a whole can. The ingredients are very nice as well:
INGREDIENTS : NO TRANS FAT • NO ADDED MSG • NO PRESERVATIVES (VEGAN) FILTERED WATER, ORGANIC TOMATOES, ORGANIC ONIONS, ORGANIC CARROTS, ORGANIC KIDNEY BEANS, ORGANIC POTATOES, ORGANIC CELERY, ORGANIC GREEN BEANS, ORGANIC PASTA (ORGANIC SEMOLINA FLOUR), ORGANIC PEAS, ORGANIC LEEKS, SPICES*, ORGANIC HIGH OLEIC SAFFLOWER AND/ OR SUNFLOWER OIL, SEA SALT, ORGANIC GARLIC, ORGANIC BLACK PEPPER. CONTAINS WHEAT. *100% PURE HERBS & SPICES (NO HIDDEN INGREDIENTS)
I like that last line…no hidden ingredients! That is always nice to know!

The soup itself was delicious! It was just as good as the Vegetable Barley, if not better! It had fun noodles with kidney beans, tomatoes, green beans, and more! It did not taste salty at all.
I made a fun salad to go with it.

Last night, I tried the Health Valley Organic Lentil Soup.

This one was labeled, “No Salt Added.” Yay! So how much salt did the soup really have??

Only 30 mg!! Oh yeah!

As for taste, I could tell this one had no salt. It was very bland. I added some pepper, a dash of salt, some Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato chips, and mozzarella cheese. Much better!

I would definitely rather buy a soup that has 40 mg instead of 290 and add my own spices and toppings. I made another salad to go with it.

This soup seemed a little more filling because I could not finish it . Maybe my salad was just bigger…who knows! I would definitely buy this soup again.
I bought one more soup to try this week:

I will let you know how it is probably tomorrow!
My breakfast and lunches were pretty much the same on Monday and Tuesday!

Breakfast was 1 packet of Nature’s Path Flax Plus oatmeal with cinnamon, banana, and Justin’s Nut Butter.
Lunch both days was Boar’s Head Low Salt turkey, Alpine Lace American, mustard, and lettuce on an Arnold’s Sandwich Thin!

I had Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato chips on the side! You will be seeing a lot of them lately because my mom took me to Whole Foods over the weekend so I stocked up! They are still one of my favorite brands of chips!

I finished both nights off with some Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie fro-yo! Soup makes me crave chocolate. Well, everything does. Ya know.

Workouts!
On Monday I went to the gym after work and did 35 minutes on the elliptical. I wanted to do more but my knee started to hurt. I walked for another 10 minutes on the treadmill after.
Last night, I decided to go to Core Fusion! I’ve been pretty good about doing my strength training on Tuesday and Thursdays lately. I usually do Total Body Conditioning at NYSC but wanted something a little more challenging last night. I also still have 21 classes to use up so I am trying to go to Core Fusion twice a week from now on! I think the main reason I haven’t been going is because the classes start at 6:45 pm. I get off work at 6:00 and the class is right next door! I never feel like wandering around for 45 minutes.
I decided it would be a good night to go because I needed to stop at Integral Yoga health food to stock up on some fruits and veggies. I haven’t been juicing because no stores near my apartment sell organic fruits and veggies. I did a major stock up last night!

Don’t ask me how I got that home. Anyway, I arrived at Core Fusion just in time! It was a substitute teacher but she was very good. The class was very challenging as always! I always feel like crying during abs! I am nice and sore today. I plan to choose one more day this week to go! Best workout ever!
What is your favorite exercise class?

No I haven’t! The last time I tried to go to Trader Joe’s, it was over capacity and they would not let me in! I need to attempt it again one of these days!

The low sodium soup sounds great. 30 mg is awesome.
I’m glad you’re back to Core Fusion! I remember from your other posts how much you love it. My favorite class is tae-bo. My gym doesn’t offer it anymore. I guess that fad is over with. I should buy a dvd…

Ooh excited to hear about the butternut squash because that is my favorite. Well I am a pretty serious fan of spinning, either that or the total body conditioning I go to at my gym…I am always SO sore after!

That’s one of the reasons I stopped buying canned soups – even my beloved Campbell’s Tomato because of the high sodium!
Spinning class, hands down my favorite. But my new gym doesn’t have any classes, so I miss it
