New Challenge: intenSati Warrior!

A few weeks ago I applied for a challenge called the intenSati Warrior Challenge. It is a one month challenge at Equinox in which I have to commit to at least 3 intenSati classes a week, drink 8 glasses of water a day, and check in with the intenSati leaders to share how I am doing. I shared my story with them and why I wanted to make a change. I found out last week that I got accepted so I get a 1-month pass to Equinox gym!

IntenSati is a revolutionary high-energy cardio workout created by Patricia Moreno, author of The intenSati Method, 7 Principles to Thinner Peace. This method of training is based on the teachings of mindfulness, positive psychology and the law of attraction. She has radically combined aerobics, martial arts and endurance principles with positive affirmations. The result is an unprecedented practice which is empowering physically and mentally.

Today was our first 2 hour orientation class at Equinox. I had no idea what to expect going into the class but I am always up for trying something new! I arrived and was very impressed by how beautiful Equinox is. It is 4 floors and everything looks brand new. I went into the room and found Maggie from Say Yes to Salad. It will be fun doing the challenge with another blogger! We got name tags and we all had to purchase the inTensati DVD and send it to a friend. Hi Dori!

There were about 40 or 50 people in the class! They said that over 100 applied so I felt pretty lucky! Patricia Morena talked to us for a while and explained what the class was all about. She said that it is meant to make you love your body, feel more positive, and obtain any goals you set your mind to. We are all going into the challenge with something we want to achieve and these classes will help us get there in the next 30 days. After each class we get a bracelet to keep track of how many we went to.

Hopefully my arm will be full of them by the end of the month! On February 7th, we have a finale class and celebration for the end of the challenge!

The class began with slow flowy movements and stretching. Certain words meant we would position ourselves into corresponding moves. We started off in a “ready” position and moved to “warrior". Patricia then started chanting her affirmations. Only about half of the class was new to inTensati so a lot of people yelled out the chants with her! I had no idea what was going on when this happened! She said things like, “I believe I will succeed” and “I am a warrior!” It seemed kind of weird at first but eventually it was kind of cool and motivational when the entire class was shouting along!

I was a little worried that the class would be all slow movements. Next thing I know, we break out into these intense, fast cardio moves! The music turned from relaxing to fast techno! We did several kickboxing moves and high-energy aerobic moves. This lasted for 45 minutes straight with almost no breaks! Everyone was drenched! We chanted and cheered while doing the moves. We yelled things like, “I am fired up, I am ready to go!” We did kicks, punches, jumps, everything!

The class was almost like a dance class! We would learn some moves and then add more and more on. All of the moves were doable but I had a hard time remembering what came next! I think my mind kept wandering which is something I need to work on. Luckily there were about 5 to 10 other inTensati instructors at the front of the class so I was able to follow them! They were all such amazing dancers with toned bodies. I just happened to be a step behind everyone! I’m sure I will get better as each class goes on.

Eventually we did the full routine about 6 times in a row (chanting at the same time). I can’t express how high the energy in this class was. Once we finished, everyone went around the room congratulating each other! The whole vibe was so friendly and positive. We were then instructed to face each other for a cool down and stretching. We did flowy movements again and some yoga poses. We finished by sitting in Indian style and chanting, “Namaste.” Once it was finished, everyone said “great job” to each other once again. I loved it.

I left thinking it was one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. It was as intense as spin, if not more. Just to prove it, I burned 540 calories and had a maximum heart rate of 188. It was much more fun than spin and I never once looked at the clock to see how much time was left. I will have to get used to the chanting but I loved the positivity in the room. I really do think I will notice a change, whether it be mental or physical after the 30 days.

I now have to check out all of the Equinox schedules and plan my classes for the week! There is one tomorrow night that I may go to. My other goal is to try as many new classes at Equinox as I can this month! There are so many that look great like Zumba, Body Sculpt, and maybe even some Yoga! Very Excited! I will still do Core Fusion every now and then but this will have to come first for the month. I am off to go do some class planning. Have a good night!
