Morning of Surprises

Hello! I had quite the morning already! I got up at 5:30  for Core Fusion. I did this on Tuesday and Wednesday too so I was pretty exhausted today! I rushed there and arrived at 6:55 on the dot. The elevator was not working. I needed to get down one level. I tried every elevator and they would not go down! Finally one of the security men showed me down the “private” staircase. I made it and the girl behind the desk told me class was canceled! FML!

There are never usually Thursday morning classes at 7:00 but they added this class today. There was an event in the hotel so they had to cancel all of the daytime classes. I was excited to be able to come on a Thursday morning so I signed up! The girl said they set up for the event in the classroom very early so there would be no class. The only good thing was that I got a free class out of it. That made it okay!

I wondered what I was going to do from 7 to 9 in the morning. I realized I had sneakers in my desk at work! Luckily I was able to get into my office that early and get my sneakers. I ended up at New York Sports Club for a nice 45 minute elliptical session. At least it was not a total waste! I plan to go tomorrow morning again so I won’t be suffering from Core Fusion withdrawal too much.

I decided to change up breakfast this week. On both Tuesday and Wednesday, I made a mushroom omelet and brought it to work with me.

Does anyone know how long cooked eggs can be out for?
I brought them in a tupperware container and they seemed fine! I was getting sick of oats because they make me really full right away but then I get starving an hour later. I tried adding peanut butter and yogurt for extra protein but I still get hungry. The eggs held me over a lot longer but they were not as fun to eat as oats. I will just do the eggs on days I have some extra time in the morning!

Lunch was turkey, lettuce and hummus on an Arnold’s sandwich thin.

I had Mary’s Gone Cracker Twigs on the side too. I had an apple later in the day.

I decided to try out the new Upper West Side Whole Foods for dinner! It was pretty nice in there. It was not crowded like Union Square which was a huge plus!

I got baked tofu, squash, carrots, peppers, quinoa, broccoli, chickpeas, edamame…and more :) Yummy.

Dessert was…..The Lite Choice!

Picture 069

I got Oreos N’ Cream. They suggested adding hot fudge to the top. Very good choice! This seriously beats a 600 calorie Dairy Queen Blizzard! So good!

I am off! I will leave you with some questions…

1) What breakfast do you find most filling?

2) What is your favorite addition to oatmeal?

  • so funny! we both switched to eggs! lol. as long as eggs are cooked and not sitting in a hot sun for hours with mayo they should be fine!

Sorry about your class! but glad you got another one!

i wake up very early for work (6am!) so i eat a small breakfast like oatmeal with fruit and almonds then bring a smoothie for later in the morning to hold me over until lunch.

  • you were in my neighb! the UWS whole foods is INFINITELY better than all the others. not only for vegan options but for crowds. shhhh….its our little secret, ok?

  • Eggs usually fill me up the longest – but I usually only have them on weekends. There is nothing better than an egg-white omelet with feta and mushrooms! And then salsa on top, of course!

I like to add granola to my oatmeal. I love the crunch!

  • I like to have my green monster goddess (spinach, almond milk, sun warrior protein, spirulina, cacao, sometimes papaya) with a piece of sprouted toast and cashew butter. That seems to hold me the longest!

Back when I was eating eggs, I would scrambled some up with goat cheese and veggies and have that with whole wheat toast.

Favorite oatmeal add ins… drizzle of coconut milk, almond butter, chopped dried apricots, a handful of lowfat granola, and a little agave nectar. DELICIOUS.

  • I think oatmeal is probably most filling for me, I love bananas and flax in there ;-)

  • Oatmeal totally keeps me full forever. My favorite topping is peanut butter :)

  • Sorry about the crazy morning. Glad you still got to workout though! Have you tried adding a few egg whites to your oatmeal? I do that once in a while along with some banana and peanut butter and it keeps me full for a pretty long time because of the extra protein.

Haven’t tried egg whites yet just because I make them at work!

  • I agree that eggs are a more filling breakfast. I’m glad I’m not alone…I felt like I was the only non-oatmeal eater for a while there :P However, I do still *love* my oatmeal. I actually prefer having it for dinner…is that weird?? My favorite toppings are the following combos: a) banana, almond butter, dark chocolate chips b) banana, coconut, macadamia nuts and b) pumpkin, cinnamon almonds, and dark chocolate chips =) OH, and sometimes I crumble up a VitaTop on my oatmeal. That is AMAZING…..and I’m totally craving it now :P

Girl, I NEED to try TLC sooooooon! When did you say they were expanding??

  • mmm I can’t wait for my Lite Choice free cup!!! My most filling breakfast is Oatmeal :-)

I think the rule of thumb on all food is that it can be out of refrigeration for 2 hours. After 2 hours, I wouldn’t eat it. Love oats with peanut butter, strawberries and bananas.

That stinks about your class this a.m. :-( But, at least you got a free class out of it!

I’m still working on finding a filling breakfast. Oats sometimes just don’t do it for me!

FAVorite addition to oatmeal is a REALLY ripe nanner and almond butter!!

  • I eat oatmeal every morning and my favorite right now is to mix in 1/4 C pumpkin and a dash (or two) of cinnamon. YUM!!

  • I have to say that lately I’ve been loving my oatmeal f=in the morning with sauteed apples. It’s like apple pie for breakfast, but healthier. Adding a little Barney Butter doesn’t hurt either ;)

I’m glad for you’re sake the UWS Whole Foods wasn’t as crowded as Union Square. I used to live around Union Square and ultimately went to that store. I learned to get used to long lines quickly…

  • Good for you for not going home and back to sleep! I would have done that!

My magic breakfast is an almond butter and banana sandwich on sprouted bread- it keeps me full for 4 hours. Anything else (unless it’s the weekend) and I’m staring at the clock in 2 hours!

I was already an hour away from my apt and 2 minutes from work so there was no going back to sleep for me! MMM love that sandwich. I have that for lunch a lot :)

  • oats def fill me up the best!! thats funny- i tried to do eggs the am too!! fav oat mix in as of late is def cocoa powder + vanilla yogurt :)

    [Reply]

  • The UWS WF is definitely the least crowded one in the city. I hope more people don’t find out about it because I don’t wanna wait in 20 minute lines, lol!

    [Reply]

  • I love topping my oatmeal with kashi go lean crunch (or any kind of super crunchy cereal) and some cold vanilla almond milk. It’s like eating a cereal on top of an oatmeal. hahaha the best of both worlds! I would try adding egg whites or protein powder into your oats…or pumpkin to fill you up a little more!

Hey girl, do you know if the sandwich thins have Splenda (sucralose) in them ? I did a search because I was wondering what was up with them, and the stats I found say they have it, so I was wondering if there was a kind without..

    [Reply]

    Missy Reply:

I just checked the ingredient list and real sugar is one of the ingredients. Sucralose (Splenda) is the 2nd to last ingredient so there may be a small amount in there. Pepperidge Farms also makes Deli Flats but I can’t find the ingredients online. Thanks for pointing this out!

  • awww man that stinks about the class but SWEET free sesh out of it!! that would make this FML situation all worth it!!
the omelet looks graet! sadly eggs don’t do anything for my hunger though! I could eat eggs and still be ravenous! oatmeal is the best for me! it keep sme full fro a while! I love adding PB, banana, dried cranberries and frozen berries (not all together) but those are my fav add-ins!

    [Reply]

  • oatmeal keeps me full for hours… as long as i make it with banana and top it with nut butter! i also love adding pumpkin to it…. adds volume!
some other add-in that i love are peaches (they make it so sweet!), dried cherries, and dark chocolate chips!

    [Reply]

  • Oh I need to try TLC! It looks so so good! Let me know when you go next maybe I will go with you! Now I am hungry :(

    [Reply]

  • Hey there! I live in NYC also : )

My favorite fillling breakfast is Omlett (1 whole egg 2 egg whites) or oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins !

    [Reply]

  • Mmm, your egg omelet looks great! I wouldn’t keep cooked eggs out more than 4 hours, I think that’s the “safe” amount of time (I should ask Nick, he knows all that stuff).

Glad you got to do a cool class, despite the bad news at the beginning! If I woke up at 5:30 in the morning, to find that my class had been canceled, I would probably have to strangle someone.

I HAVE to get to NYC this year (Nick and I are planning it) and use those GCs. The oreo’s n’ cream looks amazing, and yes it definitely beats a DQ blizzard when it comes to calories (I love DQ Blizzards, but I will definitely take a lower calorie treat that tastes AWESOME any day).

Favorite addition to oats: pumpkin and PB!

  • Right now I am on protein shakes in the morning. It is a medical food from the docotor so it is pretty filling.

I am so jealous of your lite choice :)

    [Reply]

  • I can’t believe I’ve been living in NY for almost 3 years and haven’t tried The Lite Choice – is it better than Tasty d?!? Not that I think Tasty d is very good, but I have been sticking to tart yogurt places like Berry Wild, Red Mango etc.

I actually think greek yogurt is more filling than oatmeal, with some chopped fruit and sprinkled with some cereal/granola…but oatmeal is my go-to breakfast; fave toppings are fruit dried coconut & nut butters…last wknd I tried crumbling a piece of homemade banana bread on top and that was heavenly!

    [Reply]

    Missy Reply:

Yes TLC is much better! It is organic and is much creamier! Also the TLC small is twice the size of a Tasti medium! More for your money!

  • I LOVE oatmeal for my breakfast today I added Kashi Go Lean Crunch in it… not so good I’m not sure why it just tasted weird! I am also a huge fan of egg whites w/ tons of veggies and laughing cow cheese. YUMMMM!
