Margaritas vs. Gym

Good morning friends! I am still trying to wake up but luckily my coffee is saving the day. It was one of those nights last night…ya know…4 margaritas? I had a plan to just have 2 but things always tend to get interesting when I go out with Dori! I don’t know how these things always happen to us. Okay, so she sent me an e-mail yesterday asking if I wanted to go out for outdoor drinks. I had plans to go to the gym after work but I am not one to turn down drinks for a workout. I’m sure you guys all know that by now! I went for an hour long walk during my lunch break instead. We decided to meet at a cute rooftop bar on the Upper East Side called Sutton Place.

Perfect weather for a nice cold margarita (X3)!

We attempted this picture at least 10 times. This is the best we could do! We were going to leave after 2 drinks but then Dori started texting our Twitter friend. He happened to be nearby so he stopped by so we could all meet. Funny guy. It was a fun little “tweetup.” I need more sleep. Anyway, he offered me drink #3. I don’t turn down drinks. Dori and I both had plans to work out this morning. I should have followed Dori’s lead and stuck with 2! Oh well!

Eventually we decided to leave the bar and have some dinner. We tried to go to Rosa Mexicano but there was a very long wait. Instead we went to Maya, the same place we went to for my birthday.

Another margarita……

We started with the guacamole. It was extra creamy and delicious last night!

I got an appetizer for dinner because I did some nice damage on those chips! There was no need for a huge entree. I got the Ceviche De Atun: Yellowfin tuna, orange, cucumber, red onion, cucumber-poblano broth, sesame

It was delicious! So pretty too! Dori got the Quesdellias Surtidas: Corn masa, oaxaca cheese, chile poblano rajas, zucchini, tomatillo and tomato salsas, crema fresca.

Twitter friend got the Enchiladas!

All of the food was wonderful. Love that place! Dori and Twitter friend sent me home in a cab since the subways are horrible these days. They got rid of a bunch of trains so now it takes me FOREVER to get to the city and back. So annoying. Anyway, the cab drivers in New York never know their way around. I have absolutely no sense of direction and have only lived here for a few years. I hate when they ask me how to get to Queens. I never have a clue. I tell the cab driver exactly where I live and he passes my street and starts driving around my neighborhood in circles. I am not scared to speak my mind after a few drinks so I told him I wasn’t paying extra money for him to drive around in circles. He pretty much cursed me out so I paid him and got out a few blocks away. Fun times! I made it home though! Did I make it to the gym? No. I did wake up at 6:00 in the morning because Daisy was crawling all over me. I thought about putting my gym stuff on but I decided I needed my bed for another hour. I will be much more productive if I go after work (and after coffee)! I plan to do a nice little elliptical session tonight. I have to go plan out my Equinox schedule for July so I am off! Hope you enjoyed my little adventures from the night!

1) Are you willing to skip workouts for a night out?

2) Have you been affected by the new subway changes if you are in NY?

  • Since I’ve been on summer break, I’ve been doing that a lot lately… it’s really made me realize that a lot of my fears about skipping workouts and occasional indulgences are only things i’ve made up in my mind… plus i get to have a good time:)

  • I don’t know how you drink all that and still function the next day, early! Maybe I am just getting old. I would definitely have NOT made it to workout early. Sounds like you had a super fun night, well worth being tired, and the food looks amazing! Mexican never disappoints!

  • you two are kind of AWESOME. I love your drunk-tweets when you’re together – it cracks me up. It also makes me feel kinda creepy but hey whatever, the internet is kind of creepy.

To get to Queens I always tell the driver to take the 59th St bridge – no tolls (unless theres a lot of traffic to get to the bridge which means that the charge will probably be comparable to if you take the tunnel and add the tolls). I definitely had an “incident” with a cab driver who tried to overcharge me for a ride I take … oh… frequently. He tried to keep my change as a tip and I told him I would have tipped him but he overcharged me so he didn’t need the damn tip.

You should come out with us next time! Missy was a few blocks from the 59th st bridge so I am sure that is what he took, but it gets confusing after that I think.

  • LOOOVE that you skipped teh gym to go out and have a memorable night with a friend- i would do that. THere was a point where i wouldn’t, but i’m happy to say i’m past that :) haha & yay for speaking up to the cab driver -i had a similar experience downtown recenetly, i was so ticked off because we sat in traffic for like 20 minutes. I got out!

  • sounds like you had a great night! Major suckage about the trains though. I definately feel for you! doesnt directly affect me but it does make my commute a little more crowded and longer to accomodate all the crowds. SOrry hun! write a complaint to the MTA! (my mom is the one that receives the letters and she fwds them to the VPs)

  • Love your life!!! I would skip a workout for a night out for sure, you only live once!!!

I would love to go out with you for a night and have some margaritas! The blue one looks delish!!

    Muah!!!!!!!!!!

  • yes ma’am…i would do that! you can workout anytime, but beautiful summer nights out dont happen THAT often!

ughh I hate when cab drivers ask YOU where to go!!

  • That Mexican food looks good — my still recovering tummy can’t eat it right now but I want some so bad! I also can’t workout which sucks. I would totally do it at anytime of day right now if I could. I don’t go out and stay out late that often so that doesn’t really affect my workouts.

And the UWS lines have not changed at all so luckily I am not affected. Sorry you were! :(

  • I heard that the D isn’t running temporarily, which is gonna be a serious issue if it’s not fixed by the time I go back to school! There’s no way I’m taking the 1 to the North Bronx…

Hangovers always wake me up super early, and I’ve found that the best way to beat them is to head to the gym!

  • So been there before when 2 drinks turn into 4. I’ll skip the gym for drinky-poos for people who I love to hangout with. If I don’t like the people too much, I’ll skip it or meet up after the gym.

  • I was at that same bar downstairs last night for a going away party. My office is a block from Sutton Place so we always have our happy hours there! WIsh I’d known yall were upstairs!

  • That is why I’m going back to morning workouts. I cannot continue my drinking habit and keep fit if I workout at night.
The margaritas look delicious. I want one.

I sort of try to fit it all in. Like if someone asks me to go out at night, I’ll try to do a workout at lunch. (Provided they asked me before lunch!)

  • i can’t imagine how much money you are wasting on cabs now that the subway cut some routes!! is it just a short term thing? I wouldn’t think they would cut down the subway since summer is here and tourists are about!! BTW I totally say no to the gym if i can spend some free time having fun!! That’s why I try to do my workouts sun-thurs JUST IN CASE i don’t get to workout on the weekends!

It is long term! The MTA says they are saving millions by doing this. Instead they are costing us millions! The cab is very expensive!

  • I have the opposite problem to you, instead of taking a night off from working out to hang out with friends I always choose the workout. It’s so not good for my social life, but I need the exercise for the endorphins.

I’m sorry to hear about the subway situation. That sucks, I don’t take it often now, but I move in a week so we shall see. Since I’m going to be in Union Square I don’t think it will have too much impact. I wonder if there’s any chance for change – a lot of people are having problems with their commute now.

I used to choose workouts too, but I feel much more balanced and healthy and sane now that I don’t. Working out in the morning is key to doing it all!
