Lunch and GURU Energy Drink Review!

After my little food rant this morning about people commenting on my food, I had another incident right after! The maintenance lady which I am kind of close to asked me where I was going for lunch. I told her to the gym. She said, “The gym??? You are doing too much!”

Umm…is 25 minutes of cardio too much exercise? I am sorry that I sit at a desk for 8 hours straight and like to get a little movement in during the day! It makes me feel good and gives me a jolt of energy! I told her this and she said, “You don’t need it.” Okay, so maybe she thinks I am thin enough, but how do I stay thin? By exercising! Guess she is just jealous since she can’t get herself to the gym at all!

Well I had myself a nice little workout despite what she said. I did 28 minutes on the elliptical and Level 5 and Level 10 every 2 minutes. I did not work as hard since my legs are sore but it still felt good to move a little. I won’t be going after work so I can give my muscles some rest.

Stats:

Calories Burned: 186
Average Heart Rate: 139
Maximum Heart Rate: 164

I came back to the office and had my usual turkey sandwich.

Turkey, American Cheese, Lettuce, Cucumbers, Chipotle Hummus on an Arnold’s Sandwich Thin.

With a wonderful bag of BBQ popchips!!

I was having a sweet craving after lunch so I pulled out a Chocolate Brownie GNU bar.

I was not too impressed with this flavor. It did the trick for something sweet but it was a little bitter and dry tasting. Oh well, I got lots of fiber in!

A few weeks ago, the wonderful folks at GURU sent me a bunch of their energy drinks to try!

I tried each one over the last week so I thought it would be a good time for a review!

Here are some fun facts about GURU!

An all natural energy drink?? Sounds great to me!!! I also am not a fan of the taste of usual energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster so I was excited to try these! The first flavor I tried was the Lemonade!

Calories: 115
Total Carbs: 29 g (29 g are from sugar) – 9%
Sodium: 100 mg – 4%
Potassium: 37 mg – 1%
Protein: 1g – 2%
Vitamin C: 0%
Calcium: 0%
Caffeine: 97 mg

Active Ingredients:Guarana, Echinacea, Panax ginseng, stevia leaf

This had a wonderful lemonade taste with no aftertaste like most energy drinks. It was refreshing and delicious. I got a kick burst of energy after drinking. This flavor is especially designed for athletes and I can see why! I prefer not to drink my calories but it is worth it to beat the taste of Red Bull.

The next flavor I tried was Green Tea Honey Lemon.

Guru Iced Tea Green Tea Honey-Lemon Hybrid has 200 Calories, 50 grams sugar, and 160 mg of caffeine. It is filled with antioxidant rich green & black teas as well as cane juice concentrate, lemon juice concentrate, guarana, echinacea, panax ginseng, and gingko biloba. It looked exactly like green tea once poured in a cup! I really liked that it was non-carbonated just like tea should be. It had a great tea flavor with a hint of honey. The only negative I found was 200 calories for the drink but I love that it is a healthy way to get energy!

The next flavor I tried was Tangerine.

Calories: 130
Total Carbs: 32 g (32 g are from sugar) – 11%
Sodium: 2 mg – 0%
Potassium: 72 mg – 2%
Protein: 1g – 2%
Vitamin C: 0%
Calcium: 0%
Caffeine: 97 mg

I am not a huge fan of orange drinks so I was a little skeptical about this one. I was actually pretty impressed! I have to admit that I mixed it with rum to drink it! It made a great mixer and I could barely taste the rum! I probably would not choose this flavor over the others just because it had an orange taste but it was not too bad!

The next flavor I tried was….. Original!

Serving size: 1 can
Amount Per Serving
Calories 100
Calories from Fat 0
Total Fat 0g (0%)
Sodium 110mg (4%)
Total Carbohydrate 25g (8%)
Sugars 22g (0%)
Protein 0g (0%)

Ingredients: Guarana, ginseng, gingko biloba, salt and fruit juice, and echinacea.

I was not a big fan of this flavor. It reminded me of Red bull. It had a slight carbonation to it and a hint of lemon and cherry. I would still choose it over other energy drinks because it is all natural but it made me nauseous after a few sips.

The next flavor was Superfruit!

Calories:120
Total Carbs: 29 g (29 g are from sugar) – 10%
Sodium: 2 mg – 0%
Potassium: 72 mg – 2%
Protein: 1g – 2%

Calcium: 0%
Caffeine: 97 mg

Immediately I thought this had a lot of sugar but the fact that it is an all natural fruit juice made me feel better. It is loaded with antioxidants like acai berries, echinacea, pomegranates, yumberries, and ginko biloba. It had a nice pink color like the can. It tasted wonderful! I would compare it to a passion fruit flavored drink. I drank it a little too fast because it was so good and got extremely energized! I would definitely buy this one again!

Last but not least, I tried GURU Lite!

I was most excited to try this flavor since it only has 10 calories! I thought it had a pretty weird flavor to it but not terrible. It was slightly carbonated like Red Bull. I drank half the can but had to throw it out because of the taste. I would still choose it over other energy drinks but I was not crazy about it.

Winner: Superfruit!!!! This was a delicious and healthy way to get a natural boost of energy! I can’t wait to drink this again!

I am off because I have real work to do for once. I have an hour left and then I am heading to Philly to meet 5 or 10 people for some St. Patty’s Day drinks and food! We are going to a place called Chickies and Petes. It has the most AMAZING crab fries so I am willing to travel an hour and a half to go!! Hope everyone has a fun night! Drink some green beer for me!

I’m like hi thanks i know food has calories dipshit….haha SO i totally feel you, i just try to ignore them! ha or you can say something mildly bitchy to shut them up! You keep doin your thang :D

    Crab fries?? YUM!

I totally agree about having some exercise in the middle of the day…twice a week here on campus they have Body Sculpt for staff members. It’s a bit of cardio with weights and various strengthening exercises. Such a nice break in a day of sitting at a desk!

I love how he said you don’t need to work out — sure you don’t need to, but you’re saving yourself from heart attacks and other equally fun experiences when you are older. You’re also getting strong, increasing your stamina and being overall fit. But, nah, YOU don’t need that. Being in shape is silly!

    I hate morons.

You’re getting mad at the maintenance lady for giving what was for sure, in her eyes, a compliment?

I’m sure she’d love to go to the gym on her lunch break. If she gets one. Or after work. If she doesn’t have a second job.
