So it is 5 am right now. For the past 3 hours I have done everything in my power to fall back asleep. Nothing is working. Here is what happened:
- 11 pm: Fell asleep
- 2 am: Woke up
- 2:30 am: Still awake and hungry, ate a Cocoavia bar
- 3:30 am: Still awake, frustrated, a little hungry again, ate a Z-bar. (Broke my one snack after dinner rule. I did not feel bad though because I was in control and know food helps me sleep.)
- 4am: Still awake, took a piece of melatonin
- 4:30 am: Still awake, ate some turkey on a slice of whole wheat bread with a scoop of peanut butter
I decided to face my fear of the mice and go into the kitchen when I was still awake at 4:30. No, I did not see any mice…but 2 huge roaches popped out at me! That woke me up even more. Anyway, I chose this food selection because:
- Turkey & Peanut Butter- contain L-tryptophan which are metabolized into serotonin and melatonin to cause a sleep-inducing effect.
- Whole Wheat Bread- combining high tryptophan-containing foods with carbohydrates helps calm the brain.
None of these tactics worked. Probably because I know I have to wake up in an hour anyway so why bother. The gym opens in 20 minutes..maybe I’ll go there and make some good use of my insomnia.

I SWEAR by Melatonin! I’ve tried to get my friends/family who are night owls to take it, but they look at me like I’m trying to sell them crack or something. I take it almost every night, a couple of hours before I want to go to sleep. Maybe it would help if you took it earlier in the night? I HATE not being able to sleep. I love my sleep!

I love it too!! It usually knocks me right out and makes me not nearly as tired as Tylonel Pm the next morning! I think the other night I only took a tiny piece of one though. I will try your advice on taking it earlier though!
