Hungry Girl Book Signing and Free Energy Kitchen Lunch!

Last night I went to the Hungry Girl book signing at the Borders in Columbus Circle! She just came out with a new book containing 200 recipes under 200 calories. She spoke about the book for a while and did a question and answer session.

I love HungryGirl and the newsletters I receive each day but I have to admit the main reason I went was for the free samples! I went to her book signing last year and came home with tons of goodies so I was hoping to get more this year! I think I did a good job! They were handing out my favorite chips ever…popchips!! I brought the boy along so that I could get double the amount of samples! We managed to get quite a few…..

22 bags!! Some people may call me greedy but I have slight obsession with these babies so I got as many as possible! They are cute little 50 calorie sample bags! So exciting!

They are also giving out Vitatops! I managed to get 3 of them!

They were also giving out Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Bliss and Chocolate Caramel Bars!

I tried the Chocolate Caramel right away and it was amazing! Just like eating a Snickers!! I hid them from the boy already because he loved them too!

Whole Foods was right below Borders so we decided to eat there for dinner! I made a nice big salad! I spotted beer right before checking out so we both got a bottle!

It was only $1.98! I told the boy that Whole Foods could be the cheapest place possible to get drunk in New York besides my apartment! Good to know!

My salad had a ton of different toppings! I will try to remember them all!

  • Spinach/Romaine
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Green Beans
  • Mushrooms
  • Spanish Rice and Chicken
  • Jerk Chicken
  • Sesame Baked Tofu
  • Feta Cheese

There was more but I can’t remember! It was delicious as always!!

We have a tradition of getting fro-yo after eating at Whole Foods so we went outside to find The Lite Choice. I was not exactly sure what the closest location was but knew that there were a few somewhat nearby. It was pouring rain while we were walking!! We walked for about an hour until I saw Times Square and knew exactly where one was! We were dripping wet but were so determined to find the ice cream!! It was well worth it!

YUM!!!!!!!!! I got half Mud Pie and half Cake batter!!! I usually top it with carob chips but after walking in the pouring rain for an hour, I decided to treat myself to Oreos!! AMAZING! It is hard to believe the ice cream there is so healthy! Love it!

During our walk, I spotted a Food Emporium. I have been on the search for Oikos yogurt since Stoneyfield sent me coupons a month ago, but I could not find it anywhere in Queens! I went into Food Emporium and stocked up! I also had a coupon for a free Diet Dr Pepper!

Everything in the picture cost me 20 cents!!!

I can’t wait to finally try the yogurt!! Talk about a crazy night! At least I got tons of great deals!!!

Speaking of deals, today at Energy Kitchen, they were giving away free lunch with the purchase of a drink for tax day!! I skipped the gym to take advantage of this great deal!

Apparantly everyone loves a good food deal in New York! Check out this line!

It went all the way down the street but it actually moved very fast!

I had the option of geting one of the three sandwiches:

Bison Cheesesteak Wrap (473 Calories): Chopped bison, mushrooms, onions, low-fat american cheese.

Thai Chicken Wrap (466 Calories): Grilled chicken, carrots, crispy chinese noodles, cucumbers, spicy peanut sauce.
Chicken Burger (369 Calories): Seasoned ground chicken breast.

At first I was going to get the Chicken Burger since it is the least amount of calories. I decided later that I should really take advantage of this free lunch and get something more exciting! I am in love with their wraps so I decided on the Bison Cheesesteak Wrap instead!

It was delicious! It had tons of grilled mushrooms and melted cheese inside! It was exactly like eating a cheesesteak but ten times healthier! I heard that bison is one of the leanest meats out there so I was excited to try it. I did a little research and found that it is lower in fat, calories, and cholesterol than chicken, salmon, beef and pork!

According to a website called Healthy Eating:

The American Heart Association recommends bison meat for a heart healthy diet due to its low fat and cholesterol content. Buffalo is high in protein, iron, selenium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, potassium, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamins B6 and B12.

In addition to having fewer calories, less fat and less cholesterol, there are no growth hormones, steroids, or sub-therapeutic antibiotics. These animals are both environmentally friendly and people friendly.

Since I had to purchase a drink to get the free wrap, I decided on Acai-Blueberry-Pomegranate Vitamin Water!

I have a new love for the 10 calorie Vitamin Water! It is so flavorful and refreshing!

My whole lunch ended up being a grand total of….. $2.00!

The wrap is usually $8.29 plus tax so this was an amazing deal! Gotta love free food finds!

Not only did I get free lunch, I also got 2 handy dandy Energy Kitchen tape measures!!!!

Oh yeah!!! So fun!

Dessert was a Xocai Chocolate Nugget!

Delicious! I received the Xocai chocolates a few days ago. They are delicious and have tons of health benefits! I will get into more detail about then once I try all of the varieties of chocolates!

I still have 120 emails to read from when I was on vacation so I am off! Don’t forget to enter my Salsa Recipe Contest! You can still enter to win salsa or hot sauce even if you do not have a recipe so head on over!

Meghann is also giving away Honest Foods Bars!
