Hemp Seeds Will Not Make You High

Last week, I received 2 products to try from Manitoba Harvest, the global leader in hemp foods and oils.

The package included:

  1. Shelled Hemp Seed
  2. Hemp Pro 70 (Water Soluble 70% Protein Concentrate)

I decided to try the Shelled Hemp Seeds in my cereal a few days ago.

Description (according to the website):

From Hemp’s amazing seed Manitoba Harvest Shelled Hemp Seed is created. We’ve taken the most nutritious part of the hemp seed, the inner kernel, removed the hard shell and sealed it in a modified atmosphere package to lock in its freshness.

Manitoba Harvest Shelled Hemp Seed (also known as Hemp Hearts) has a pleasant nutty flavor, similar to sunflower seeds. This tasty nutritional powerhouse is the choice topping for salads, cereal and yogurt. It is also used as an ingredient for nutrition bars and baking. Shelled Hemp Seed is a delicious healthy snack right from the bag.

Shelled Hemp Seed is an excellent source of the Omega 6 & 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) and delivers these EFAs in a balanced 3.75:1 ratio. As well, Shelled Hemp Seed contains the rare fatty acid Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA). Beyond this, Shelled Hemp Seed is a super source of protein, containing all the Essential Amino Acids.

Manitoba Harvest Shelled Hemp Seed is produced from hemp seed that is grown sustainably without herbicides or pesticides. Contains no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

I really enjoyed the seeds in my cereal. They added a nice crunch to each spoonful. They did not really have a taste to them which was good. I have to start adding them to my oatmeal every morning too since they are so great for you!

Next I decided to try the Hemp Pro 70.

Description:

Manitoba Harvest HEMP PRO 70 is the world’s first WATER SOLUBLE HEMP PROTEIN CONCENTRATE. HEMP PRO 70 is rich in Essential Amino Acids (Protein) and Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs).

This rich and creamy protein concentrate touts a 70% protein concentration providing 21g of Protein and 800 mg of Omega-3 per serving. With your health in mind, this product has been without the use of Hexane, a petro chemical commonly used to make soy and other protein isolates.

I mixed a serving of the powder in my shaker with water.

I took one sip and spit it out! It had an awful taste to it. It was a mix between fish and rotten eggs.

I decided to give it a second chance this morning. Instead of water, I used milk. I added a banana and mixed it up in the blender.

I also added a scoop of peanut butter to try to hide the taste of the powder.

It came out much better this time. The banana and peanut butter really helped with the taste.

Next time, I would add fruit or juice because I was only able to drink half without getting sick of the hemp taste. It would probably be a lot better with some blueberries!

The inside of the inofrmation packet had a FAQ session. One question said, “Will I get high from eating hemp seeds?”

The answer was no but that would be cool! Lol. I am happy I got to try both products but I will be sticking with the hemp seeds from now on.

Yesterday

I made the same bowl of oats as the day before. They were so good!

Quaker Old Fashioned Oats with banana, cinnamon, and raisins.

Lunch

I decided to make some peanut butter and jelly! I picked a few random flavors to use!

I used peanut butter on one side, chocolate on the other side, and pumpkin butter on both! Yum!

With Miguel’s chips on the side!
I also sipped on a Trilogy Synergy Kombucha later in the afternoon.

Gym

After work, I went to Total Body Conditioning. I got a nice total body strength workout.

Vacation Time!

Today is a wonderful day since it is my last full day of work this week! Tonight my mom is picking me up and we are going to Connecticut! My dad’s band is playing at a festival called Gathering of the Vibes. He is in a Grateful Dead jam band called Steal Your Face. It is a huge festival so I was more than happy to miss some work to go see him play!

Friday night I will be getting back and then leaving for Atlantic City Saturday morning! It is my sister’s bachelorette party! I will try to blog at some point this weekend, but if not, I promise I will announce the Musselman’s winner Monday morning! Enter here if you haven’t already!

Have a great weekend!
