Guest Post: Happy Hour at Mudville 9

This is Monique of Food Snob.  I gladly volunteered to guest blog for Missy when she put the alert out; for one because she is the sweetest girl ever and for two, because I was on my way to happy hour and figured i kill two birds with one stone… but more so because she a sweetie and I love her. Lately, I have been more mindful than ever about my diet and exercise because swimsuit season is approaching and I am nowhere NEAR swimsuit ready. But I still try and thats what counts- at least thats what I keep telling myself.

My coworkers sent out the emails the day before.

Mudville 9afterwork tomorrow?”

REPLY ALL, “HELL YEAH”

Mudville 9 is a cute little place on Chambers Street in Lower Manhattan and they are known for one thing: WINGS. And after a week of hitting the gym (and tanning salon) hard I was ready for a little reward. I scoured the menu all day for options that were going to be rewarding but not detrimental. And I made a plan to have a salad along with 5 wings…and a light beer (i mean, its for Missy- i gotta have a beer)

I arrived late and met my peeps at the saloon. The menu was already on the table so i looked it over. I kept repeating my order in my head. I have a bad habit of not sticking to my plans with regards to menus…

Thats when these just magically appeared on the table. Mozzarella Sticks. I looked at my friends and they said they figured I was gonna be late so they ordered appetizers. And without another thought, i ate 2 mozzarella sticks. And then ALL HOPE for a healthy dinner went right out the window because the mozzarella sticks were soooo goood.

I told myself to enjoy my night because really, when am I gonna come back to this place? Not any time soon (i hope). So I ordered a beer or three.

The waitress took everyone’s order and pretty much everyone ordered wings ( duh- its a wing place) but i had a hard time deciding on the sauce. They don’t have very many sauces but the choices ranged from sweet sauces to HOLY COW- That’s Hot, sauces. Something told me to get the smoky barbecue, but when in Rome…

I got the Medium hot wings. Ten of them. With Cajun Fries (not pictured). Im not sure how to count these wings since, every where I go the portions are different. At Hooters, if you order 10 wings, you get ten intact wings…here at Mudville you get 10 wing pieces- or as I see it five and a half wings.

Whatever. The sauce was freaking HOT and it was making my nose run. And when you are in a restaurant laughing with friends you don’t necessarily want to be the chick that pulls out the Kleenex every 5 seconds to give the old nose a blow (that sounds naughty).

I ate about half of the order and with waiting for the check I mindlessly munched on a few more and made a mess of my plate. Its a bad habit. I start playing with my food and then i just randomly eat it. I was full. Beyond full. Damn Beers! and My mouth was on fire… that blue cheese did not help and the beer made it worse. Everyone was making plans to bar hop after dinner but I felt that I had done enough damage for one night and my poor Mickey Girl was doing the pee pee dance at home.

I hear the gang went to some random places in some questionable neighborhoods… but didn’t stay out too long. And yes, they are home safely :-)

I got home to an excited pup and remembered i had this baby in the fridge…

And ya damn right i had a glass

I had fun at Mudville 9. The prices were REALLY reasonable and how can you go wrong when you have great company? I’d definitely go back and would get the salad…I saw someone with the buffalo chicken salad and it looked fab!
