GoodBelly!

Last week I had the opportunity to try a delicious probiotic fruit drink from a company called Goodbelly!

012

About (from the website):

GoodBelly is the deliciously juicy probiotic fruit drink (nope, it’s not yogurt) that strengthens and supports your digestion and natural immunity with clinically proven liveand active probiotic cultures.

GoodBelly contains 20 billion probiotics per serving!!

Why are probiotics so important? (Source: Goodbelly)

Good health begins in your belly. In fact, good health begins with the good bacteria that keep your system in balance.Called intestinal microflora, these beneficial bacteria are the key to a healthy digestive and immune system.

When the microflora balance tips in favor of harmful bacteria due to lifestyle and environmental factors, you may experience pain, gas, bloating, and other illnesses.  But, if you’ve got a belly full of beneficial bacteria, you’re probably feeling pretty good.

Of course, no one can do everything right all the time – too much stress, fatty foods, a course of antibiotics*, or not getting enough exercise can tip the bacteria out of balance. And that’s why there’s GoodBelly. Because nobody’s perfect.

I tried the Strawberry first!

Check out the nutrition facts!

I like that it is just 50 calories for one bottle and is very high in vitamins and minerals. Look at the cute bottle!

003

Just seeing the cute face made me happy! The drink itself was very good. It had a refreshing strawberry flavor that was not too sweet.

The Blueberry Acai was also very good! My favorite was the Mango flavor!

It was a great treat for when I woke up in the morning! I really love these because I am horrible at remembering to take my supplements and probiotics every day. A delicious drink is much easier to remember!

There is a great Q&A section on the website. I will show you a few questions and answers that I found interesting!

Q.: I eat yogurt every day. Am I getting enough probiotics?

A.: These questions bring up some important points. For a probiotic food to be effective, its cultures have to be alive. Not only must they survive the trip through the digestive system (see above), they should be living in the first place. Many highly processed yogurts (and other foods) have fewer live cultures – some have even been found to have none! GoodBelly is minimally processed and guaranteed to have a full complement of live cultures.

Q: I’m an athlete and heard that probiotics are good for me. Can you tell me why, and when the best time is to consume GoodBelly for ultimate impact?

A. While probiotics are not specifically energy providing aids, so not directly performance enhancing, they could provide several studied benefits to athletes, including: lessening the effects of stress induced immune impairment, which may reduce the recovery time and associated fatigue from strenuous performance; reduce post-performance gastrointestinal distress; and reduce the (somewhat common) risk of respiratory infections which follow strenuous and endurance exercise. Take probiotics several hours before the athletic event and, if desired, shortly after.

Q: When is the best time to drink GoodBelly? Empty stomach/full stomach? Morning, noon, night?

A.: Enjoying GoodBelly anytime is just fine. Some people who take  at night find it helps them with their digestive health throughout the following day; others find a serving in the morning starts the day out right. As for full or empty stomach, research is scarce, but some increased benefit has been shown when probiotics are accompanied by food, especially dairy foods. This might be that they helpthe cultures better survive the trip through the highly acidic environment of the stomach.

Goodbelly can be purchased online and other health food stores. I found mine at Whole Foods. There are also coupons on the website so be sure to check it out!

  • I don’t take probiotics, but I do eat a lot of yogurt. Does that count? :P I’ve been on a ton of antibiotics lately, so I think maybe I should start using probiotics soon….

There’s also a GoodBelly product called GoodBelly BigShot 50 that’s more of a “booster” kind of probiotic drink for when you’re taking antibiotics…you should try it!

  • interesting…i never thought much about probiotics before. i tend to have an overly sensitive stomach…do you know if this helps with that sort of thing? I’ll have to search out the health food stores around here to see if they carry it. i wonder how expensive it is?

I would say give them a shot. I’ve heard tons of success stories from people who started taking probiotics on a daily basis. I think the 4 packs were either 3.99 or 4.99 at Whole Foods.

Megan — I too had an extremely sensative stomache for 15+ yrs. My issues were random and I never knew what to expect after I ate, but I averaged at least one bad stomache episode a week. I recently found goodbelly, have been drinking a shot a day, and for 3 months, I haven’t’ had any problems. After years and years of stomache issues, I can’t believe one little drink has cured it.
