Fiesta!

Hey everyone. Thanks for your great response to my ZEVIA giveaway! It seems as though so many of us are still hooked on diet sodas and want to get away from artificial sweeteners. Of course I recommend water before anything but ZEVIA is a great alternative to soda! Check out the giveaway here if you have not entered yet!

SUNDAY RECAP

I did not eat breakfast till about 2:00 in the afternoon since I had a long night of drinking the night before! I did have 2 Z-bars when I got up a few times. Finally I made a bowl of cereal!

I added bananas and raisins.

I drank a Vitamin Water too. Slightly addicted to those things.

The cereal was too good not to have a 2nd bowl! I stole some of the boy’s Cocoa Krispies too :)

We pretty much watched football and did laundry all day. It was one of those lazy Sundays. We did walk to the mall and back so I got maybe an hour of activity in. We saw this girl holding little turtles the day before and she said she got them outside the mall. They were so cute but of course we could not find them on Sunday! They were selling little frogs but apparently the boy has a huge fear of frogs! He said he would not sleep over anymore if I got one! Oh well. Now I am working on a kitten…

We decided to cook dinner since we went out to eat way too much the past week. The theme was Mexican! We started off by making a ton of squash, peppers, and zucchini!

We added Lightlife Smart Ground to the veggies.

We also made some mushrooms and peppers on the side for me since he won’t eat mushrooms.

I also made steamed broccoli.

Along with brown rice.

And corn.
I made one ginormous Mexican salad!

I had a Blue Moon as well which I could not finish because the salad was so big!

Delicious and of course we had tons of leftovers!

We both wanted ice cream a little later. We only had a tiny bit left so we both had an ice cream sandwich with a scoop of ice cream made a sundae!

With whipped cream :)

MONDAY

I made oats and used the other half of my Justin’s maple almond butter.

I need to buy more. It makes my oats so much better.

I did not bring lunch so I went inside the Chelsea Market and decided on Hale and Hearty Soup.

I made a wonderful chopped salad!

Mesclun greens with carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, avocado, and goat cheese. The best part about the salad was the dressing!! It was low-fat carrot ginger. It tasted just like the stuff they give you in Japanese restaurants!

I got some overpriced popchips to munch on too. Remind me to buy my popchips before I walk into that store next time! I need to go back there again because they had all of these amazing looking wraps. There was a roasted red pepper goat cheese wrap and a new hummus wrap. Today I was good and brought lunch or else I would go there again!

I went right home from work instead of the gym because I had an hour left with the boy before he had to head back to work for the week. Check out the leftovers we had!

I made a fresh salad with mushrooms, peppers, mozzarella cheese, and cucumbers.

The boy made a fresh bag of rice and we topped everything over our salads again!

Sorry about the smoke! That is definitely the best dinner ever.

He left and I was too lazy to go to the gym so I decided to do a workout video. I rented Jillian Michaels “No More Trouble Zones” from Netflix last week so I decided to give it a whirl. It brought back major Shred memories. I only lasted 20 of the 40 minutes but my legs are sore today! The entire 20 minutes was squats and lunges so it is no surprise that I can barely walk. I was tired and probably did not let my food digest long enough so I just stopped the video in the middle. I am sending it back and getting another workout video to try next. Gotta love Netflix.

I spent the rest of the night trying to fix my laptop. I found the problem on Google. It is a fake virus program that claims you have 40 viruses just to get you to pay the $60.00. There was step by step directions on how to get rid of it. I did them but was unsuccessful so I will try again tonight! I was angry so I went in the kitchen and got dessert.

1 frozen banana with carob chips and whipped cream. There might be an ice cream sammy hiding under the whipped cream too!

I was stuffed after that and should have went to bed. Instead I grabbed another snack.

A Z-Bar and Blueberry Oikos with a ZEVIA Root Beer. Also when the Z-bar was gone and there was still more yogurt left, I went in the kitchen and added more Kashi Honey Sunshine into the cup. Blah. I know they are all healthy snacks but I was beyond full after the salad so they were just part of my mindless eating habits.

This morning I decided to pull out my food journal from last year. Maybe it will help more if I have to write these snacks down with a pen and paper. I will try it for a few days and see because I am tired of eating everything in sight after dinner. Obviously taking pictures is not enough for me. There is also a little comments section so I can write how I feel the next day which may help.

Have you ever kept a food journal? Did it help you?

I want that ginormous mexican salad!!! it has all my favorites!!!

food dairy? not really.. well, my blog kind of serves like a food dairy. I haven't looked back yet… maybe I should sometimes too!
But I do realize that somedays I ate too much of something, even it's good, like veggie, too much is just too much!!!

dang! that is a sh!t ton of leftovers!

I have kept a food diary before. Honestly, some days it helped, some days it didn't….I think sometimes I would feel guilty and get too obsessed with the "numbers" of everything (though I still do calculate my cals everyday, can't break the habit!). But maybe you could try it for a few days to see if it helps?

I keep a food journal because it helps me be honest with myself. I'm suprised at how much I eat without even realizing it.

I JUST bought a box of the Honey Sunshine so I'm sooo excited to eat it after reading you liked it so much you had 2 bowls… thats MY kinda cereal :)

Food journals are definitely good to use when you want to see just how much you eat. I used to have one back when I wanted to lose a few pounds because I could look back to the day before in order to make it easier to balance out my starches with my proteins, fruits & veggies with sweets, etc. They're a good idea as long as you don't let it run your eating habits…

Lovinggg your Mexi style meals! They look delicious!!!! :)

I think keeping a food journal is totally helpful. It really lets you see if you are eating well or just "thinking" you are.

I love your veggie creation! I have not purchased the fake ground beef in a really long time, but I should because I remember really enjoying it, and even Nick liked it last time I bought it!

I enjoyed the Root Beer Zevia a lot. So far it was one of my favorites.

As for keeping a food journal, it's not my thing. It works really well for some people, but for others (like me) it's just a huge hassle. I do keep track of how many fruits/veggies/ and dairy servings I get in a day though. I just check it off in my planner.

Maybe if you make chocolate pudding in a frog mould it will help your boyfriend with his phobia?!

I have kept a food diary for almost 3 years. I don't write anything except date, food eaten at which meals/snacks, and calorie count. I think it CAN be helpful- for me I think it's more of a compulsion/obsession thing. Though it's funny to look back and think "exactly a year ago I was eating XXX". I read my old blog posts too and they make me really upset…this time last year was pretty rough (partly explaining my lack of blogging right now- kind of lost in thought). I have been reading a lot of old posts from various blogs over the past week or so and it's nothing short of amazing how things have changed. I don't know if they have just changed their writing style, or if their attitudes HAVE changed, but there is quite a marked difference. In a positive way :D

oh I totally agaree – kashi sunshine is just too dangerous to have in the house. I had to refrain from buying it ;)

i'm supposed to have a sample of that honey sunshine goodness coming in the mail any day now. oh, sweet cereal, how i await thee!

and i have kept a food diary for over a year now although in some ways i think it has caused more harm than help. as a weight loss tool, i think it's great, but i feel like since my goal is simply healthy eating i shouldn't be so focused on every little thing i eat.

I'm drooling over that Mexican salad and Blue Moon, love Blue Moon!
I currently keep a food journal, but I don't calculate calories or anything. It's helpful in that I am less inclined to grab a handful of M & Ms if I know I have to write it down, but not helpful b/c I never look back and analyze what I ate!

I'm using my blog as a food journal right now… just through pictures instead of calories. It's working great so far!

I totally have a problem with excessive (but healthy) after dinner snacking too! In the last few days, I've been planning out my desert ahead of time (I always have a desert, lol, I just don't need three). This makes me stick to it. Like, for example, I will defrost a cookie, or just plan out the whole thing. Then I am satisfied and not tempted to eat more, because I don't want to stray from what I planned (I'm a little OCD). It works!
