Excuse Your Bag!

Hello again! In case you missed it, the winner of the EatSmart Digital Scale was announced here!

iChange

I wanted to start this post off by thanking everyone who joined in on my iChange 30-day challenge groupWe’ve got 31 members so far which is awesome! So far I am finding the website really simple and fun to use. I already got a little comment from the RD about not eating any fruit yesterday! Oops! Usually I eat fruit with breakfast and after lunch so this was a rare occasion! I am not used to tracking everything I eat with calorie counts so it will take some getting used to. I kind of cheated and estimated a lot of things yesterday :)  I do really love how easy it is to interact with other group members! There is still time to join if you are interested. Just head here: www.ichange.com/partners/missymaintains.

Subway Adventures

On a less positive note, I need to tell you my crazy subway ride today! The morning started off really well. I was up bright and early (5:30 am) for Core Fusion! I went last night too so I was impressed that I was able to wake up again today. Last night was tough since I hadn’t been there in over a week but today was much better. I loved the teacher and felt like I got a great workout in. Despite the awful weather, I was in a good mood after such a nice class….until the subway!

I was standing there holding my purse, gym bag, and iPod while listening to my Paul Van Dyke house music.  This ghetto woman gets on and pushes me to get by me. The train is very crowded by the way. She says with an attitude, “EXCUSE YOUR BAG!”

I say, “What am I supposed to do with it??”

She says,”I said excuse your bag, you fuc**n illiterate bitch!”

I ignore her and she continues to curse me out and call me illiterate. First of all….who the hell says excuse your bag? Why would you not say, “Excuse me!” Any respectful person would say that after bumping into another person. Second, how am I illiterate for asking what I should do with my bag? I guess she does not know what illiterate really means. Next time I’ll be sure to make a special pathway for her so she can enter the train without touching anyone. I had so much I wanted to say back but I figured I should avoid fist fights first thing on a Friday morning. Love it. Okay, that was my rant for the day.

Yummy Food!

I’ve been lazy about taking pictures of every meal so I will just show you some favorites from the past few days!

Lunch on Wednesday:

022

Pesto tofu and chickpea salad from Westside Market. They have tons of little containers of prepared food that always looks so good! This was delicious! I am a huge pesto fan all of the sudden!

Lunch on Monday and Thursday

025

There is a fruit and vegetable store in Chelsea Market that I go to a lot. You can basically fill your salad with everything possible and it will never cost more than $5 or $6 bucks! I got everything from beets to guacamole to tofu to chickpeas, etc. It was very pretty and fun!

Dinner on Wednesday and Thursday

026

Turkey and American on an Ezekiel wrap with hummus. I also had Kettle Cooked chips and cucumbers on the side for dipping into more hummus! This is always a fun and easy lunch or dinner for me. I’ve been slacking with my cooking. Maybe next week!

Lunch for Today!

028

Wild Alaskan Salmon with hummus and lettuce on an Ezekiel wrap. I did not eat it yet but this is what it looks like! I also made sure to bring an apple after no fruit yesterday!

030

I am excited for the weekend because I have Dori’s birthday tonight! We are also celebrating her first half marathon!! Many lychee martinis will be involved :) Tomorrow and Sunday is weekend 3 of school! Can’t wait!

1) Do you have any crazy subway, train, airplane, etc. stories?

  • Some people are so rude! I was waiting in line to board an airplane a few months ago and the man behind me kept coughing (more like smoker’s cough than a sick cough, but still) and not covering his mouth. I could FEEL the cough on my hair and neck. After three times I turned around and asked politely if he could please cover his mouth when he coughed. He looked at me like that was a ridiculous question. Again, some people!

I do not count calories but try to follow weight watchers. I seriously have no idea how many calories I eat per day. I may be anywhere from 1200-3000, no idea!!

  • I’m way excited for iChange!
Public transportation is scary!! What a wacko. Sadly, I don’t have any funny public trans. stories. I wish I did, nothing beats a good crazy person story!

I would have told that woman, “Then, I’ll excuse the fact you don’t even know what that word means you F&(**&( IGNORANT bitch.”

Then I would keep my fingers crossed she didn’t sit on me or something.

I was riding the T in Boston and this really drunk couple was acting VERY PDA in front of my friend and I. It was to the point where they were almost groping each other. Gross!

I count calories, but I pay more attention to carbs, fat, and protein :)

  • Missy you did absolutely NOTHING wrong and I would’ve have said the same thing. there are always lunatics on public transport, but don’t ever let it effect you!! :) I’ve had someone smack me intentionally on my hand when it was on the subway rail just so they can take my place on the rail. CRAZY i tell you!!

  • That story is hilarious!! “Are you illiterate?” OMG.

  • I had a similar experience at the gym! some people are just so miserable but you just have to ignore them and not allow them to ruin your good mood unless when they steal your car! ha

  • WOAH crazy lady on the subway! every once in awhile that’s what bugs me about public transportation…but alas you laugh and move on.

hmm pesto that sounds really awesome right now. is it healthy?

  • I am not such a fan of iChange :o ( I signed up under another blogger’s group to try it out and found it was difficult to use and along with mixed messages about what was okay and not okay, it was pretty limiting. At least what I could figure out about it.

That pesto tofu salad looks delicious!!!

  • I am a totally calorie counter and it has turned into an obsession. I told myself that I will only count until my wedding but I have this feeling that even after it I’ll constantly be doing math in my head without realizing it.

Sorry about the subway bitch- I can’t stand people like that. I like to think that there is something Terrible going on in their life and they’re just taking it out on me.

  • subway psychos are the BEST!!!!!! that’s a fabulous one. I just look at them as a great ‘bank’ of stories to tell to people who are already terrified of nyc ;)

  • I just signed up. I’m kind of nervous because I really like to be in control of my food, but maybe that’s something I need to relax about a bit.

That’s awful about that woman on the subway! At least it’s a good laugh. lol

The times I have been most successful at weight loss I counted calories. In my experience, when you are already more or less at your goal weight and just looking to lose some vanity lbs you need to be really accurate in your calorie counting and the best way is to weigh food on a food scale or at the very least use measuring cups/spoons. If not you are most likely underestimating and then it is very frustrating when you don’t see weight loss. It can seem lots of work but IMO nothing is more frustrating than to think you are really doing good and not to see results. Some people do find this leads to obsession so if that is something someone can be prone to they should use caution.

Personally I like Fitday.com to track calories. It is totally free and you can set it up anyway you like i.e. higher carb, lower carb, how much weight you want to lose and by when, etc and it gives you a calorie count to shoot for. Of course calorie limits are just rough estimates and some people have to go higher/lower.

  • filling a box to the brim with veggies for 6 bucks sounds too good to be true! what iiiiiiiiiiis this place? heaven…

hope you had fun for dori’s birthday!

  • Oh wow, what a story! I have so many stories like that, because I ride the subway a lot. I live in downtown Toronto and it just isn’t convenient to drive. One time this woman started cussing me out…the subway was so crowded and she was sitting down and I was standing in a huge crowd, the only place left for me to stand was near the door. She screamed at me for blocking the doorway. She was like, “You’re blocking the doorway blondie! So its true, you really are an idiot!” Wow, way to judge me by the colour of my freakin hair. And I had nowhere else to stand! I would have gladly moved if she had asked. You just have to laugh about these types of people. It’s not about you, its about them.

  • Dear God I hate the subway! I’m so sorry you had to go through that! I’ve witnessed and experienced lots of horrible things on there and I avoid taking it as much as possible.

I don’t count calories anymore and I have to say it’s a total relief!

Btw, I got that wrap at Pax (and made a notation on my blog about you!). It was really good. Thanks for the rec! :)

  • WHAT A STORY!! gah girl! your eats look great tho!
i dont count anymore! BUT i do know what kind of food and stuff is going into my body

    [Reply]

  • I was on the public city bus in high school and my bag accidentally hit someone who was sitting, so I said “I’m sorry” and then stood in the only place available — right in front of her. A few minutes later, she decided to kick my shin REALLY hard. The pain was so bad that my eyes started tearing. All because I accidentally banged my backpack into her!
