Last night, I attended a Foodbuzz event featuring Eggland’s Best at a nice restaurant in the city called Beacon.

I walked in and sat a table with some wonderful foodies: Sarah from Tales of Expansion, Megan from Runner’s Kitchen, Kerry from French Revolution, Maya from My Feasts, Jennifer from The Mama Chronicles, and Bart from Eggland’s Best Quality Control Team.

They had a beautiful omelet station with about 10 different options for toppings!

They also had a table full of fruit, salad, smoked salmon, potatoes, bacon, sausage, danishes, and other pastries!

I got an egg white omelet with smoked salmon, mushrooms, and spinach! I also filled my plate with rye bread, more smoked salmon, fruit, and salad.

Along with a delicious Bellini!!

The omelet was wonderful! I was very impressed by all of the amazing sides and desserts offered. I just read Sarah’s recap and was very upset to see that I completely missed the chocolate croissants! I guess that could be a good thing though!

As we were eating, Charlie Lanktree, the President and CEO of EB, spoke to us about the eggs and why they are so healthy.

I found a very similar explanation to his presentation of the benefits on the Eb website:

In addition to the great taste, Eggland’s Best eggs are nutritionally superior to ordinary eggs:

  • 175mg of cholesterol compared to 213mg of cholesterol in an ordinary egg. Clinical tests have shown that people on a low-fat diet who ate 12 Eggland’s Best eggs a week did not increase their serum cholesterol level.
  • Higher in Vitamin E, at least 10 times more than in an ordinary egg. One Eggland’s Best egg provides 25% of a person’s recommended daily allowance of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to protect body cells and tissues whether in the heart, skin, lungs, joints or elsewhere in the body.
  • 25% less saturated fat than in an ordinary egg. Cutting back on saturated fat is recommended for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels and cardiovascular functions.
4 grams of total fat compared to 4.5 grams in an ordinary egg.
  • 100mg of Omega 3, compared to only 37mg in an ordinary egg. Omega 3 fatty acids are termed “essential” and are believed to be beneficial for heart health, brain and eye function, infant development, and alleviating hypertension.
  • 200mcg of Lutein compared to 135mcg lutein in an ordinary egg. Lutein is an important antioxidant that helps to maintain healthy vision which is important to those who could be at high risk of cataracts and macular degeneration (the elderly and people with diabetes).
  • Higher in Iodine. 40% of the Daily Value of Iodine compared to 15% in an ordinary egg. Iodine is an essential element for thyroid function, necessary for the normal growth, development, and functioning of the brain and body.
  • A “complete protein“. A single egg supplies about 10% of the protein needed daily, along with vitamins A, D, and B12. Eggs are an economical, convenient, and easy-to-prepare source of high-quality protein.

So yes, these eggs really do seem to be the best! I am glad they happen to be the brand I already purchase on a regular basis :)

A few other interesting things I learned were that white and brown eggs are nutritionally the same quality. The only difference is that a white egg comes from a white chicken and a brown egg comes from a brown chicken! Also, the smaller the egg is, the higher the quality. I always thought the jumbo brown eggs were the highest quality so this was good to know.

Next, Barbara Seeling Brown, the host of the regional NJ cooking show “The New Stress Free Cooking Show” and author of several “Stress Free Cooking” cookbooks spoke to us.

She talked about how versatile eggs are and how easy they can be too cook with. She emphasized that cooking should be enjoyable and stress free.

Bart from the EB Quality Team and Roger, the EB Marketing Manager, also spoke to us. Tons of interesting egg questions were asked and it turned out to be a very informative event.

I went home with lots of goodies!

A cute tote!

A big carton of eggs!! They had eggs in bowls as decoration so they told us if we found cartons, we could stock up on the eggs!

They also just came out with something really cool for those lazy cooks like me that enjoy convenience!

Hard boiled eggs in a bag!! I know hard boiled eggs are easy to make but I either never seem to get them to peel right or just never think to make them before work! These are not out in New York yet but hopefully they will be soon! Such a healthy and convenient snack

They also gave us umbrellas since it was supposed to rain! So nice!

Along with the cutest egg stuffed animal ever! He is my new sleeping buddy!

A handy dandy spatula was included in the bag too!

Along with information about the brand, coupons, and a card for a complimentary cocktail at Beacon!

Thank you to Foodbuzz and Eggland’s Best for inviting me to such a wonderful event!

I got home after the event and had a package in front of my door!

As soon as I see anything from popchips, I start jumping around in excitement! They are still my favorite chip brand out of everything I have tried!

They sent me 4 bags of popchips, coupons for free bags, and a note that said “Just popping in to say hi!” So nice! Thank you popchips!!

I did Level 3 of the Shred since I would normally take Total Body Conditioning on Tuesdays. It was torture! I was craving something sweet after all of those eggs so I pulled out some Turtle Mountain Fruit Bars!

With a nice hunk of dark chocolate and grapes!

I am not usually a fan of fruit bars but this was very impressive. It was more like a smoothie on a stick! Only 70 calories too :) I went in for a 2nd serving of chocolate and grapes after! Maybe some cashews too before bed!

Today…

Happy Earth Day! My work has a special board where we pledge to do something to reduce our carbon foot print. They also have cake and cookies on the tables so I may treat myself soon!

Breakfast included a Blueberry Oikos.

Along with some Eggland’s Best hard boiled eggs and Zoe’s Cinnamon Raisin granola!

With a mug or two of Tazo Awake Tea!

Delicious breakfast! It kept me full for surprisingly long too! Lots of protein!

I went to the gym at lunch and started off on the elliptical. After 2 minutes, I wasn’t feelin it. I got off and hopped on the treadmill. I walked most of the time but increased my incline to step up the calories a little.

Stats:

Calories Burned: 148

Maximum Heart Rate: 170

Average Heart Rate: 126

100 less calories than I usually burn at lunch but it was just one of those days where I had no energy. It’s all good.

I had no bread or wraps left in the house to pack lunch for today so I stopped at the health food store and picked up a nice sandwich.

It was a Vegetarian Turkey Sandwich: organic seven grain bread, eggless mayonnaise, Chinese cabbage, and meatless smoked flavor turkey.

I took a bite and then decided to take a picture of the inside! Pretty good and only 190 calories! The mayo made it delicious even if it was eggless :)

I also had some of my new popchips on the side!

I went back up to my desk and was forced to walk by the tables with the cake on them. There was a crumb cake and some sort of cake with chocolate in the middle. I needed to try one of them!

Crumb Cake won! SOO GOOD!!! That thick layer on top was amazing! Now let’s see if I can resist the chocolate cake!

Don’t forget to get those votes in for my salsa recipe contest here! There are 8 delicious recipes to choose from! The winner will be picked Friday!

My Always Gift Bag Giveaway ends Friday too!

Meghann is giving away Glee Gum!

Quick Update (1 Hour Later)

There was a birthday and I was offered a cupcake. Why did I say yes? NO CLUE!! I just had cake an hour ago! Look at this thing!!

Yes, it was as good as it looks! Blah, I am done till dinner! Have a good night!

yay for Popchips. Good job taking it easy at the gym since you weren’t feeling it. It’s so hard sometimes to give our bodies the break they need.

I’m dying to try PopChips! I might just have to take the plunge and go out and grab some. What’s your favorite flavor? I think I’d dig the Salt and Vinegar…

Eggs are great! I stayed away from them for a long time because my dad has high cholesterol, but egg-whites are delicious, good for you and PACKED with protein! All good things in my book! :)

PS. I had a similar BLAH day at the gym. It’s life, it happens. :)
