Cupcake:Pre-Workout Snack

Hello! Thank you for all of your advice on my gym situation. My first step will be to try out the $40.00 gym and decide if I like it. I’ll probably continue buying Core Fusion 10-packs every now and then since I need my Core Fusion Cardio! I really will start preparing food at home more too! There are just no supermarkets near me and I don’t have a car here so it can be difficult! I will have to get out my old grammy shopping cart.

I mentioned yesterday that I would rather not give up happy hours! I went once this week and made sure it was the cheapest one around! I ended up at Friday’s since they have half- priced drinks every night. They are also much stronger than other places in Queens so you get the most for your money. I don’t really enjoy eating there but it is fine for happy hour. I got a Cosmopolitan (x3).

I started with a side salad. I asked for romaine lettuce instead of iceburg but I guess they forgot.

I also got the Shrimp Key West- definitely the healthiest thing on that menu.

After 3 drinks, my friend and I were going to leave but then the bartender told us about their new dessert: the Chips Ahoy Sundae! Without even thinking about it, one was ordered for us to share!

blog 8 048

It was the best dessert ever. Warm little chunks of Chips Ahoy, whipped cream, caramel, hot fudge, vanilla ice cream…what more can a girl ask for? It was worth every calorie! Perfect way to end the night!

Last night was a much more healthier night! I loved Otarian so much that I had to go back with Dori! It just so happened that there was a Core Fusion Cardio class a block away from Otarian! The class was not till 8:00 so we decided to eat before class and see how we felt. There is not too much jumping around in the class so we thought we’d be okay with a light dinner. I was dying to have the amazing Pesto Portabello Mushroom burger again but decided to try something new! I went with the Toasted Burrito with salsa.

blog 8 050

It was filled with spicy vegetable and bean chilli, turmeric rice, and cheese, with salsa.

blog 8 051

It was delicious! It tasted just like any burrito you would find at a Mexican restaurant! It was the perfect size too. My only complaint is that they should use whole wheat wraps instead of enriched bleached wheat flour. Oh well.

Dori got the tacos: filled with spicy vegetable and bean chilli, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, and cheese.

I had a bite and they were also amazing! They tasted like a normal beef taco but obviously much better for the enviroment!

After we were done eating we met up with Kristine from Shape Up in the City and took a pit stop at Baked by Melissa for a little pre-workout dessert!

blog 8 052

AMAZING! I tried the Cinnamon and Cookie Dough.  Dori had the S’mores. Next week they are coming out with a chocolate chip pancake cupcake! We will be there!!

The 3 of us took Core Fusion Cardio after. The class was amazing but I don’t think we will be eating dinner beforehand again. Dori and I both felt a bit nauseous during the mountain climbers. A snack will have to do!

Speaking of Core Fusion, Dori is giving away the new Core Fusion Lean & Toned DVD! It is very similar to a real class! Enter here!

I will be choosing the Seventh Generation Cleaning Kit winner tomorrow!

  • I workout right after breakfast most days, so I just wait 2 hours after my cereal and I’m set!! And afterwards, OATS!! Not really a snack, but definitely the best recovery food :)

  • Yum to those cupcakes!

I like to eat yogurt, fruit, or peanut butter and crackers before a workout.

After I usually eat dinner. I like planning my workout right before a big meal. I’m usually so hungry when I finish my exercise!

  • I usually work out at night so dinner is my pre workout snack but my good to post workout snack is either a green monster or peanut butter topped bananas.

And I don’t blame you for not wanting to give up happy hours–they make you happy afterall!

  • I’ve seriously been wanting to go to Friday’s for a long time now just for the desserts alone!! The commercials always get me! LOL

Hold your horses! Baked by Melissa is coming out with a PANCAKE flavor? Which one is going to have it? Because I know there’s the original one in Soho, but they opened up one closer to where I live (by Union Square).

    Missy,
I just wanted to say that I fully support you using an old grammy shopping cart to tote your grocery’s around NYC. hahahaha
I’ll be moving there in the fall and my friends have already started to make fun of me that I’ll be needing one.
Hey- if it gets you to save money, AND eat healthier… why not!?
And if it makes you feel any better, I’ll totally be right there with you in about 5 months, and wouldn’t dare make fun of you!
    :)

ugh i could imagine a buritto or tacos not being such a hot combo with mountain climbers! i hateee eating before i work out but after mmm mmm fooood

  • And THIS is why I love your blog! Chips Ahoy Sundae plus cupcakes….you’re a woman after my own heart :)

My favorite pre-workout snack is a handful or two of nuts, and post-workout is a big bowl of loaded Greek yogurt. I tend to be ravenous a few hours after working out, so I need to make sure to eat something properly filling to avoid overeating later on!

    [Reply]

  • Chips Ahoy sundae?! Yummm. Pre-workout I like anything carby, like a small sweet potato, then afterwards I like to have nuts or a big bowl of Greek yogurt with lots of random stuff thrown in!

    [Reply]

  • ROFL, that thing is so funny. Im heading to share that.
