Hello! Hope everyone had a fun Cinco de Mayo! My night was great! After work, I met Dori and our friend Melissa at a class called the Bar Method. I will be doing a review of the class tomorrow! After class we walked over to Baked by Melissa to try their brand new Chocolate Chip Pancake cupcake!!!
The one on the bottom was the pancake! Yes, it really did taste like pancakes with maple syrup! So good! I also got Cookies N’ Cream and Cookie Dough. Dessert before dinner? Why not??!
After our wonderful treats, we walked on over to a Mexican restaurant called Hecho En Dumbo. It was incredibly packed when we got there. We contemplated leaving but we figured every Mexican restaurant would be full. After a few pushs and shoves, we made our way to the bar.
We celebrated with a few margaritas of course!
The wait for a table was supposed to be an hour. Luckily we met some really nice guys from Colorado and they offered to let us sit with them! They also were nice enough to treat us to EVERYTHING. Just wait till you see the feast we had….
We ordered about 10 different things from the menu! We started with 2 plates of chips and guacamole. Amazing.
The best thing on the table was this:
Queso Fundido de Huitlacoche: Sauteed Huitlacoche Mushroom with fresh Epazote
It was pretty much hot melted cheese in a bowl. It was so great to dip the nachos in there with the guacamole! It was like eating the top layer of a pizza. MMM.
The next dish was called Barbacoa: Lamb Shank Confit stewed with Avocado leaf and served in its own Consomme with Chickpea, Onion, Carrot, and blanched Tomatillo.
I don’t even remember if I tried the lamb! I did try the next dish:
I can’t find it on the menu but it was octopus! It was okay but a little too fishy for me.
Next we got the Burritas de Verduras:Organic red bliss potato, roasted green squash, and chile poblano peppers.
Loved the burritos!
This next dish…definitely did not try it. It was Sopes de Nopal:
Blanched Mexican Cactus in a Chile Pulla Cream Sauce
The thought of eating cactus scared me a bit! It was also a little too creamy for me. I loved the next one: Tacos de Castillo: All natural grilled Steak Short Rib, bone served on side.
I love the whole, “bone served on side” deal. The steak was incredibly juicy and delicious!
Last but not least: Tacos de Cochinita Pibil: Berkshire Pork with Yucatan spices steamed in Banana Leaf over freshly squeezed Sour Orange juice and garnished with pickled red onion.
Everything was amazing! We had such a great time chatting with our new friends! A few more margaritas were consumed
I made it home after some typical subway adventures. The one I went to was closed so I had to have someone walk me over to an open one! One of these days I will learn my way around the city.
How did you celebrate Cinco De Mayo??

hahaha that’s awesome! Now we DEFINITELY need to hang out when I move to the city!!! Although, it scares me that you’ve been living in the city for a while now, and still don’t know how to get around! That is probably my biggest fear.
Some of that looked questionable to me too… I wouldn’t have been able to try it.
I went to a mexican restaurant with some family and friends and enjoyed a couple of margaritas and some yummy chicken fajitas!
