Bollywood Boogie Workout Review & Giveaway!

I love workouts that get me moving and are so fun that they don’t actually feel like workouts!! When Acacia asked if I wanted to try the Bollywood Boogie workout, I gladly accepted.  The last time I tried Indian-style dancing, it was at Self Workout in the Park in front of thousands of people. I loved the idea of being able to make a fool of myself in the comfort of my own home!

The workout is led by Bollywood Fitness star and yogini, Hemalayaa. The video is split into three 15-minute segments: Goddess Infusion, Hero and Heroine, and Boogie All Around. There is no equipment needed but next time I would use my yoga mat. It was very painful to do some of the ab work on my hardwood floor. I did the video barefoot since Hemalayaa does not wear any shoes or socks.

The first section, Goddess Infusion, starts with some slow, sexual moves to warm up the body. Hemalayaa says some motivational phrases like, “Bring joy to the world while sweeping your arms in the sky.”  Her positive words kind of reminded me of intenSati! There are some lunges, hip rolls, and shoulder shaking during this section as well. I felt a little goofy but it was a nice 15-minute warmup.

The second section is called Hero and Heroine. She is joined by a guy named Aroon in this section who serves as the “Hero”. This section is a lot more upbeat and involves some faster dance moves and hopping around the room. I was really hoping my neighbor below me was not home! There are a bunch of ridiculous, crazy moves like “the village idiot” and ”mermaid splash”.  This part was fun in the beginning but there were jumps back and forth that went on for a little too long. I did not want to risk an injury. There is also a small strength section which I really enjoyed that includes abs, hip exercises, and squats.  As I said before, I wish the video suggested using a yoga mat  because the abdominal section started to hurt my butt after a while.

The third and final section is called Boogie All Around. I did this one for about 3 minutes until I realized it was the exact same ”village idiot” moves as the 2nd section! Every single dance move was identical to the previous section. It was way too repetitive for me. I always have a hard time getting through exercise DVDs at home so I need them to be exciting and challenging the entire time. I watched the last 10 minutes to see if any of the moves would be different but they were all a repeat of the previous section. They really could not come up with any new moves for just 15 minutes?? Boring!

Overall I enjoyed this video in the beginning since it was fun and something different from my usual workouts. I was sweating but I would not call it an intense cardio workout.  If I were to ever do this DVD again, I would skip the last 15 minutes. It was too repetitive and I did not feel like hopping around my room anymore by the end. The first 2 sections were fun and definitely made me giggle while exercising!
