Always Blogger Cocktail Event and a Giveaway!!

Last night, I went to a blogger cocktail event called, A Woman’s Infinite Confidence”. The event was for the leading women’s health, wellness, and lifestyle bloggers, and included drinks, hors d’oeuvres and complimentary spa treatments. It was sponsored by OB/GYN and women’s health expert Dr. Rebecca Booth to promote her new book Venus Week. It was also an introduction to the new Always Infinity pad to help women take control throughout the month.

The event was at Townhouse Spa in New York.

The night started off with Dr. Booth discussing Venus Week-the 5-7 days of the month when estrogen and testosterone are at their peak, and explained the ideal physical and emotional sense of attractiveness that a woman feels.

She handed out a pamphlet that explained how each month there is a week when you feel more confident, more beautiful and even more in the mood sexually. You feel skinny, you don’t feel as hungry, your hair and skin look good, you look good and your man looks extra good to you. Venus Week, named after the goddess of love, fertility and nature, is what she calls this magical grouping of days.

She believes women can benefit from looking for subtle changes in their body so that they can enjoy the benefits of Venus Week. There are a few questions to consider when finding your Venus:

  • Are you having regular periods?
  • Do you notice days during the month when you feel less distracted, you clothes seem to fit better, you feel fewer cravings than usual and are even less hungry?
  • Do you notice a change in physical symptoms after the middle of your cycle, such as breast tenderness, cravings, and water retention?

If you answered yes to these questions, you are probably experiencing Venus Week. This was pretty interesting to me because I know that I go through most of those symptoms each month but never thought anything of it. I think it is great for women to be in tune with their body.

Dr Booth also explained that women should take supplements such as multivitamins, calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, and omega-3. Exercise, red wine, dark chocolate, nuts, fruits and vegetables also help to increase our serotonin levels and improve our moods.

I actually take all 5 of those supplements almost every day so it was nice to be reassured that I am taking the appropriate kind. Eating more dark chocolate is never a problem for me either :)

Dr. Rebecca Booth is the author of the book The Venus Week: Discover the Powerful Secret of Your CycleAt Any Age. She gave us a copy of the book to take home with us so I am looking forward to learning more!

If you are interested in the topic, visit http://thevenusweek.com/.

Next, a scientist named Anne from Proctor & Gamble spoke to us about the new Always Infinity Pad. The pad uses Infinicel-a never-before-seen material that absorbs 10 times its weight while remaining light, forever changing women’s expectations and protection during their periods.

She used coffee to demonstrate the performance of the pad and how fluid is aquired by the Infinel.

It was very impressive. The pad absorbed the coffee and you could only see a tiny spot on the pad. She said that many women who tested it out thought that their periods were lighter that month but it was actually the amazing absorbtion of the pad. She gave us samples to try out at home so I am very curious to see how it works.

She said that 84% of women are pad users which I found very surprising. I thought most women used tampons but apparently only 10% use just tampons. I am in that 10% but will definitly try out the samples that they gave us. The pad is supposed to be soft, flexible and light which is usually one of my concerns so I look forward to trying it!

There were beautiful spreads of food for us to enjoy after the presentations!

Vegetable and fruit trays…

AMAZING cookies and brownies!

Cheese and crackers and HUGE strawberries! They were the best strawberries ever!

Tons of sushi!!!

I had a glass of Champagne, a few sushi rolls, fruit, and some brownie. Everything was delicious!! Especially the brownie :)

We were also able to choose between a complimentary manicure, pedicure, massage, or waxing!

I chose the manicure! My nails were in desperate need of one! They turned out beautiful! Everyone who got the massage said it was the best massage of their life!

A few girls were there that I met at other NYC blogger meetups!

Dori from Dori’s Shiny Blog, Me, and Emily from Eating Chalk!!

Amie from The Healthy Apple, Me, and Dori!

As I was leaving, I decided to take a cookie to go for my boyfriend since he was waiting at my apartment for me. They saw me take one and told me to take as much as I wanted! So nice!!

I wrapped up tons of cookies and cheese to go!

My boyfriend really appreciated the cookies!! Thanks again!

They also gave us cute reusable totes filled with tons of goodies! See below for a giveaway to win your own gift bag!!!

The bag contained 5 samples of the Always Infinity pad.

It also included The No-Sugar Cookbook and Dr. Booth’s Book-The Venus Week.

Exercise bands!!

There was a note with the bands that said:

*An exercise and stress reduction plan will enhance your overall health, vitality, and well-being throughout the month

Cinnamon Glazed Almonds!!!

*Dr. Booth suggests having 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to help maintain your Venus in addition to increasing consumption of reproductive parts of plants (e.g.,nuts).

Daily Facial Cleansing Cloths!

*Dr Booth recommends becoming aware of when you are blemish prone. During this time, she recommends using a product with salicylic acid daily to help reduce or prevent acne.

Dark chocolate bar!

*Flavenoids in cocoa enhance the microcirculation necessary for opitmal functioning of the ovaries. They also have antioxidant (anti-aging) properties and may be a natural antidepressant.

A bottle of Omega-3 supplements!

VitaMuffin!!

Great gift bag! I look forward to trying everything!!

Thank you to the Always team, Dr. Booth, and to Amy for allowing me to attend such an amazing event!!!!

Dinner

I got home around 9 and the boy asked if I wanted to have dinner at the diner. I was not very hungry since I had some sushi and fruit but I figured I would get hungry eventually since it was not that much food.

I was going to get something light like an omelet but I decided I wanted to a beer so I changed my mind about breakfast! Beer and omelets do not pair well!

I started with a Coors Light.

I got a house salad with lite Italian dressing.

Beer #2

For my main course, I got a turkey burger with grilled mushrooms and broccoli. It was from the “Lighter Side” portion of the menu so it had no bread or fries. They ended up bringing me a regular burger with tons of fries but I was good and sent it back!

I am happy I did because this was plenty!

I still had some of my boyfriend’s fries of course!

The waffle fries there are amazing!

I told him no to dessert, especially since I brought him so many cookies! He insisted on pudding so I agreed and had half!

How can you resist that beauty?? He went home and had a Larabar and almost all of the cookies! He still will never gain a pound. Not fair!

Today….

I set my alarm for 6:40 for the Shred. Next thing ya know, it is 7:40! I seriously cannot wake up on time this week! I gave myself 20 minutes to get ready for work and sprinted out the door!

I had a nice BLUEBERRY breakfast!!

A blueberry muffin from The Wild Muffin and a blueberry Oikos!

Amazing muffin!

This was my first time trying the Blueberry Oikos!! I opened up the lid and did not see any blueberries! It looked like plain! I dug into the bottom and wah-lah!

Loads of blueberry goodness! I really liked this flavor! I enjoyed it much more than the vanilla! It was especially wonderful when I crumbled my muffin inside!

Delicious breakfast!

I went to the gym at lunch and did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I burned a nice 240 calories. I won’t be going after work because I really do not like going on Friday nights. It is also too nice outside to be inside of a gym!!

For lunch I had a ham wrap!

  • Boar’s Head Low Salt Ham
  • Laughing Cow Cheese
  • Tribe Hummus
  • Mustard
  • Lettuce
  • Whole Wheat Wrap

I had some Honey Mustard Pretzal Crisps for the side!

This was my first time trying the honey mustard. They were delicious!! They reminded me of those fatning honey mustard pretzals I used to eat as a kid. Luckily these are much healthier with 0 Trans Fat, 0 Saturated Fat, and 0 Cholesterol! Yum!

And a Simply Scrumptious Cookie!

It was delicious but I will talk about that later ;) I am not sure what my plans are exactly for the weekend but I am very excited that it will actually be nice out tomorrow! What are you doing in the sunshine tomorrow?

Have a great weekend!

  • Andrea (Off Her Cork)

Oh goodness what a fabbo time! Seriously that sounds like a very informative and fun session. :) I’m not surprised by the number of pad vs. tampon wearers, I think a lot of women are afraid of tampons actually. Or have never been taught how to use them and are too afraid to ask.

I should talk with my OB and see if we can get a session going too!
