I just had one eventful morning!!! The boy came to New York to visit me today. His train got here at 8:00 am so we decided to have breakfast together. I woke up an hour early so I could meet him at Penn Station as soon as his train arrived. I really wanted to take him to Energy Kitchen near my work but I was not sure if we would have time. We met at 8:15 and rushed to the subway. And the excitement starts now…
I have an Unlimited Metro card so I can use it as many times as I want in a month for a certain price. The only little issue is that you are not allowed to use the card twice in a row. Every now and then, the boy and I go through the gate together using my card because we are too lazy to add money to his. Yeah, it is pure laziness. Those subway machines also tend to steal my money so I really hate using them.
Anyway, since we were in such a rush today to have breakfast before work, we went through the gate together using my card. Usually no one sees and if one of the employees does see, they tell him to pay his fare but let him keep walking. They don’t care too much about $2.25. Today we both saw 2 cops standing there after we went through together. I kept walking like I was clueless. I heard the female cop say, “Ma’am!” I turned back and the boy was stopped so I turned around and went back over to them. They asked us both where we were from. He told them he is from Pennsylvania. I told them I am from PA but live in New York now. They asked to see our Id’s. Both of us have Pennsylvania Id’s so the cop was a little confused. She asked me how long I’ve lived in New York and I said 2 years. She said, “You should know by now that each one of you has to pay the fare.” The boy told her it was his fault and that we were in a hurry. She told him to go back and pay his fare.
We thought that was it but then the 2 cops went to the side and started talking. The female cop came back over to me again and asked where I am from. I told her a 2nd time I am from Pennsylvania but live in New York. She told me I was not clear with her and that I never told her I lived in New York. She said that when a cop asks me something, I better be as clear as possible. She asked me why I had a Pennsylvania licence. I told her I never got it changed. She asked again how long I’ve been in New York. I said 2 years! Then she asked my address! She really did not believe me or she was just confused. I told her my address and she said that I am supposed to get a new Id after living in New York for 30 days. I told her I’ve never heard that before. I looked away from her for a minute and she told me that she could have given me a citation so I better look her in the eye!! Then the boy asked the 2nd cop a question and she said, “It was very rude of you to ask him a question while I am talking.” I tried not to laugh ha ha. Finally she let us go and yelled at the boy because his bag was open (the zipper was broken).
She was really rude and thought she was so great. I guess she has nothing better to do with her time on a Thursday morning. I think the male cop did not care at all. He just stood there and listened. Whatever, it gave us something to laugh about after!
Once she was done with us, it was 8:25. We ran onto a train and realized we got on the wrong one! It was going uptown and we had to go downtown. We ran off and finally got to my work area at 8:30! No time for Energy Kitchen so we went to a deli called Chelsea Gourmet instead. Breakfast ended up being delicious but you will have to wait till tomorrow to see pictures!
Back to yesterday….No arrests or anything but there was yummy food!
I woke up at 5:30 (ugh) and could not fall back asleep. I don’t need to wake up till 7:00 usually so it makes me so mad when I wake up just an hour or two early! Back in the day I would wake up and work out but I was too sleepy yesterday. I decided to just have an early breakfast and then try to go back to sleep after since food always seems to be the solution.
I made Kashi Heart to Heart with bananas and raisins.
Luckily I ran out of milk after the second bowl because a third bowl is usually made in the middle of the night.
The cereal worked and I fell right back asleep till 7:20. I knew I was not going to want oatmeal when I got to work after eating all of that cereal so I made an omelet to bring to work with me. I stuck it inside an Arnold’s Sammy with Laughing Cow.
I was hoping I would not need it till around lunch time since I had all of that cereal already. I was good until about 11:00 and then ate the sammy.
I brought a Perfect Foods bar with me to eat later in the afternoon as well.
I’ve had a box of these bars for months now but I never touched them! Also I prefer to eat bars as snacks but this can be considered a meal replacement bar. It contains 283 calories and 18 grams of protein. I have a hard time just eating half of something so I guess I just avoided bringing them to work. They are definitely great for eating on-the-go if there are no other healthy options.
The carob chip flavor was delicious! The bar tasted like peanut butter but had little carob chips in it. It was huge and really filled me up. It actually filled me up so much that I was at an uncomfortable fullness level during the afternoon. I probably only needed half but it was too good to save!
I love the ingredient list:
Peanut Butter*, Raw Unheated Buddy Bee Honey*, Milk Protein, Egg Protein, Raisins, Walnuts, Rice Protein, Dried Whole Food Powders (Sunflower Seed*, Sesame Seed*, Flax Seed*, Rice Bran*, Rose-Hip*, Orange*, Lemon*, Grapefruit*, Tomato*, Apple*, Bell Pepper, Papaya*, Mango*, Black Cherry, Cranberry, Fig, Alfalfa*, Celery*, Spinach*, Parsley*, Mint, Kelp*, Dulse*), Olive Oil*, Sunflower Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil*, Flax Seed Oil*, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Almond Oil, and Rice Bran Oil.
*denotes organic ingredients
I ate the bar around 1:00 and did not get hungry again till 8:30 so yes, it did it’s job!
GYM!
I finally made it to the gym last night for the first time in 2 weeks! I was exhausted but decided that even if I only did a half hour of cardio it would be better than nothing. I need to get that mentality back in my head instead of the all or nothing approach. I know even just 20 minutes is better than nothing. Hopefully I am out of the gym rut now! (Except I can’t go today of course).
I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and then found out that Cardio Kickboxing was going on. Usually on Wednesdays it is step class which I attempted twice but decided I am way to uncoordinated to ever try again. The class was great last night! I burned 230 calories on the elliptical and then another 400 in class! He had us do more cardio than usual I think. Lots of jump roping and jumping jacks. I probably would have left the gym after my elliptical session so I am happy the class motivated me to stay!
I was a hungry girl when I got home. There was more pasta but no way was I eating it for the 4th night in a row! I am glad I didn’t because the boy just called me and said he is eating it now. We did just eat breakfast an hour ago but you know him! Instead I had this!
I knew I wanted to cook it with salsa but which one??
This is why I’ve been tyring to eat salsa with dinner so much! Finally I chose this one:
I poured it all over the crumbles with red peppers and mushrooms.
At the last minute I decided to add a Laughing Cow wedge. Can’t have Mexican without some sort of cheese!
I brought out my last bag of Miguel’s chips!
I topped everything over a salad. It was wonderful!
Mexican is never complete with beer!
I got so full from the salad that I barely even drank the beer! I did have room for dessert a little later though
Same as the night before…Oikos with grapes and carob chips. Yesterday was the first day I looked at the serving size for the carobs. 2 tablespoons…hmm yeah not happening! They are so addicting.
Hi my name is Missy and I don’t know how to have just 1 serving of dessert:
At least the dessert was a healthy one

omg! what a jerk cop! cops seriously scare me because they have *power* and you have to reallllly watch your tongue with them. Which, I'm normally a nice person
but jacka*& cops don't care!!!
I am SO with you on only eating 1/2 a bar. I'm like, how do people do that??!!

glad to know that you were just almost arrested! I guess it was an uncomfortable moment you.
Congrats on going back to gym! you're so right about the all or nothing mentality, it's ridiculous but so often we do that!

YIKES!! Thank goodness no arrests were made – crazy cops.
That food bar sounds intriguing!

Wow, that is quite the story!!! New York cops have SUCH an attitude. My dad lives in Westchester county during the week for work but has a Massachusetts license plate. He got pulled over, and the cop yelled at him for not having a NY license even though he LIVES and our HOME is in Mass and he only goes to NY for 3-4 days a week. CRAZYNESS!!! I'm glad everything worked out for you, though!

what a crazy story! i'm glad nothing else happened!
man, you DO have a lot of salsa

Yeah, because "anonymous" has NEVER done anything to break the law( run a red light, speed, etc.)hehe…cc

Yikes. NY cops scare me! I swear they just pick on people when they feel like it…and turn a blind eye to stuff they should be watching. I am in agreement with your boyfriend (though hoping he waited until they were out of earshot?!) And the anon is breaking the unwritten blogger rule by leaving weird comments without a name to back them up.
That bar sounds good- you could always only pack half for work? Did you try the Heart Thrives yet?
Enjoy WF tonight and thanks for mentioning the dinner

Insideiamdancing: Good idea about the bar. I will put half in a little baggie from now on unless it is my full meal. I have no control lol. I put the Heart Thrives in the freezer since I ate 2 of those at once too! Much better since it requires dethawing them before eating 10 of them at once!

hahah I had the same thing happen to me when I was in high school…except it was like 4 a.m. and they called my parents! My mom was crying to me over the phone "you'll never get into college now!" ahahah.
And please, I don't go to the movies anymore just to see one movie. It's too expensive!

Ugh those cops must have been having a bad day and took it out on you two. So stupid. Glad it didn't turn into anything bigger than that though:)

hahaha! Loved your story. No go fix that ID. LOL!

As someone in the legal field i will tell you that there are cops in the station for a reason. Now that school has started a lot of kids are "doubling up" in turnstiles and while the cop might have been a bitch she is probably sick and tired of seeing it happen. Unfortunately you might have been her the straw that broke the camels back and she wanted to mess with you.
Its a measly $2.25, better safe than sorry- pay it. They recently arrested someone for 48 hrs for using hte emergency exit when there was no emergency. And you know what? they can do that. Please don't let them use you as an example…its not worth it.
But glad you got away unscathed.

Lim got a ticket for moving between cars before the train even left the station!

i get that they are supposed to up hold the law and they deal with a lot of crappy people…but it doesn't mean they have to be nasty all the time… it seems like most folks talk about them having a bad attitude and seriously in NY the only thing they had to do was figure out where you lived?
[Reply]
ahh i got those coupons as well. i can't wait to use them!
and yes you sure do have lots of salsa! hah.
i hope you don't see that cop every again at the train! haha.
