Hello! I’ve been wanting to give a little update on my recent exercise class schedule and introduce a new fitness class that I recently tried with some fellow bloggers.
Most of you probably think I only do intenSati if you’ve been reading my blog for a while. While I do love it and teach it monthly, I now take it much less than I used to. I never miss my Tuesday night Patricia Moreno class, and probably fit in at least one other class during the week. While I do love the positive affirmations, the crazy sweating, and dancing around with Sati friends, I really want to see more muscle so I’ve added more strength training into my routine. I try to take Refine Method twice a week (hoping to increase it to every other day). I occasionally take classes at Equinox like Spin and 30/60/90, but really prefer intenSati and Refine Method over anything else. When I heard about a new studio that served wine after working out, I was all about expanding my fitness horizons!
This boutique studio, called Uplift, is a women-only fitness movement in NYC that combines fabulous workouts with a social and lifestyle element tailor-made for women. It is a fitness and social movement for women that engenders positivity, self-empowerment and celebration by combining back-to-basics cardio and strength fitness with a fun social/networking element.
I love the idea of making friends from working out. I probably would have about one friend if I never went to the gym! I also love the idea of drinking after a sweat session, as I usually go home and do that alone anyway. I probably seem like less of an alcoholic when doing it at a gym with other people!
I went to Uplift one day after work and was able to walk to the studio which was a huge plus! The studio was adorable; I kind of wish I lived there. There were several cardio machines like you would see at any normal gym.
You can see in the photo that there was a girl in the middle of a personal training session. I was thinking to myself that if I were ever to pay for personal training, I would want to do it in a private space like this. I can’t ever imagine doing it at Equinox while 50 macho men can see everything I’m doing! There was also a small room which is where we would be taking class, along with a cute locker room.
Let me just discuss the locker room for a minute. I would describe it as a woman’s fantasy land. Any product or hair tool a girl could ever want or need to get ready was in there.
From curling irons, to fancy tampons, to mouthwash, to hair products, to face wash, to razors, everything! I walked in and saw some fellow bloggers, Dori and Ashley! I also brought my coworker along because she loves to try out new classes with me. Hi Shira!
I really appreciated the positive affirmations all over the mirrors!
The class we took was called “Fit and Flow”.
This was a 30 minute boot camp/interval style class and 30 minutes of yoga. The first half included light and heavy weights. We did exercises like jump backs, squats, lunges with weights, sprints, push ups and planks, and more. I was drenched after the 30 minutes!
The second half was yoga. I honestly was not looking forward to this because yoga typically bores me but this was relaxing and felt really good after the intense workout we did right before. I definitely can handle yoga for 30 minutes! An hour? Maybe not.
After class, there was wine and healthy snacks such as almonds, veggies, guacamole, and hummus.
I socialized with the staff and other bloggers while enjoying wine.
I don’t know that I’d actually join Uplift because I usually just want to get home after the gym since I live pretty far from the city. This would be the perfect studio to join if you were new to NYC and looking to make some friends with common interests. I probably would have joined when I moved here a few years ago and had no friends. I would go back and try more of the classes since it was a great workout and will never turn down alcohol!
Do you have any fitness studios around you that offer cocktail after working out? Thoughts on this?

Uplift was really cute! I think having a workout with wine as a treat class is a great idea. I think having it every day would defeat the purpose! I’d love to do something like this once a month – take a fun class with women with similar interests and then when the endorphins are high and people are friendly, chat over some wine!

They do that after every class? It’a a great idea, but I do agree with only doing it on occasion.

Wine after class seems like a good idea. Wine is rich in antioxidants anyway=) But yeah, in moderation as always=)

Wow! A workout with a wine is really an amazing and out of the box idea. I have never even heard of anything like this. I guess most of people like me will really like this post.

In order to make my workouts more effective I am usually taking additional nutrition, not additional drinking
I’ve just started taking Navy Seal Formula (manufactured by MGNutritionals) and I am getting extreme results in my breathing and cardio. My workouts are really improving and I am seeing fewer burn outs. I’ve taken a lot of supplements, but this one is best for me.
